This 54 piece Thinlits die set, Specimen, is designed by Tim Holtz for Sizzix. this die set features files, tags, number sets, and more. This die set is designed to coordinate with the Sizzix Postale die set and the Sizzix Collector die set (sold separately). These Thinlits dies are chemically etched dies that are designed to cut, emboss, or stencil a single sheet of cardstock, paper, metallic foil, or vellum. These dies are compatible with leading die cutting machines (sold separately). These dies can be used to make cards, scrapbook pages, tags, journal and planner pages, and other paper crafting and mixed media projects. The largest die measures 6.12" x 4.62" and the smallest die measures 0.12" x 0.25".
The downside to die sets with so many tiny pieces some sets will most likely be missing pieces when received. This has happened before so it’s the first thing I do when receiving die sets. It’s frustrating and disappointing. I haven’t had much luck getting duplicate or missing dies replaced either.
This is one of the most useful sets I've ever gotten! The file folder is quick and easy to cut. You can use it for cards, journals, add-ons - the possibilities are endless! The specimen slide is the same- so many things you can use it for. The little cards fit perfectly, and al of the accessories are fantastic. I have used this almost every day since I got it. Highly recommend!
When I read the reviews on these dies, one person thought it was one of the most useful sets she had ever purchased. Since then I have learned to pay close attention to the sizes of the dies. Even so I don't think there was enough information provided about this set to have steered me away from buying it. Regret the money spent. Personally I wouldn't give it any stars, but I think that would be unfair since it may be very useful to the next person.
Picked this up to make journals for young boys to keep track of their outdoor finds. Enjoy using these dies and having fun creating. There are many very small dies to keep track of.
These dies are unique and very fun. They work well with the Field Notes stamps from Stampers Anonymous, one of my favorite sets. Only drawback, most of the dies are really tiny and very fiddly to work with. Get out your tweezers.

Love the dies all Tim's die are really good and they always cut beautiful.
Often I see a die and really like it but wonder how many times I would actually use it. But not with the Specimen dies! I am having so much fun with it. Every time I make something with it my mind is already jumping ahead to the next idea I can use it for.
Well done Tim Holtz. Well done!
This is a fun die set from Tim Holtz and Sizzix. I selected this one mainly for the file folder and slide frame dies but had fun exploring the file tab, label frame and tiny text dies. This die set can be applied to any type of project using mixed media. I am pleased with this set.
I've been eyeing this die set for a year or more, and after trying to "McGyver" (you know, the guy who can make anything out of duct tape and bubble gum)... anyway, after trying to use the many dies in my stash to make a specimen folders and slides to no avail... and tossing more card stock in the recycle bin, I decided to purchase this. I couldn't get it out of the package fast enough to try it! Wow, "presto chango" I have file folders and specimen slides everywhere. I even used the plastic packaging for the specimen slide window.
I use double sided tape on a piece of cardboard to keep all the little dies accounted for. Great die set to use for my Junk Journals.
This is so versatile, you can make so many variations of things. I love all of Tim Holtz's products and this is no exception!
