Inchies, What Are They?
Submitted by: Scrapbook.com
Article Courtesy Scrapjazz.com: by Patter Cross

Have you ever heard of inchies?  I had not until I joined the stamping world.  Starting out as a scrapbooker, I had never heard of that term.  But once I started diving deeper into the papercrafting world and started stamping, I learned about these great little pieces of art called inchies.

What exactly are they?  Well, they are literally a one-inch square piece of art.  You can swap them or collect them.  You can use them on your cards, ATCs, scrapbook pages, and altered art.  You can make jewelry, magnets, bookmarks, or anything else you can think of out of them .  They are also a great way to use up your scraps!

How to Make Them

You can buy a package of pre-made inchies.  There are companies that sell them; however, I much prefer to use up scraps and make them myself.  You can either cut them on your trimmer or use a 1" punch such as the Paper Shapers 1" Square Punch.

Then to decorate, you can either use small 1" stamps or a portion of a larger stamp.  On this bookmark, I used a portion of a larger stamp.  Here you can see how part of the dress is cut off because the stamp was larger than 1".

On Bonnie's card, she used small stamps to create this adorable "bug" scene.

Storing Your Inchies

If you create inchies to collect or you are involved in swaps, you will want to store them in some way.  You can buy an adorable acrylic box to keep them in, or there are even inchie page protectors you can buy.  Each page protector holds about 30 inchies per page.

For tons of inchie inspiration and tutorials, be sure to visit the Inchie INKlings blog.

Currently there are not any inchies in the Scrapjazz gallery but the Scrapbook.com gallery has over 280 pieces in the gallery that contain inchies!  Let's fill up the Scrapjazz gallery.  Inchies are truly fun to create and use!
