My Mother, standing on left, with her younger sister and her Mother, seated.
The journaling which is on the opposite page reads:
"The walks with Ma were adventurous and fun!! Off we would go to the lower foot of Greylock, passing through Weisner's Farm and cow pasture. Watch out for cow flops!!! Then over the crude wooden bridge spanning Hoxie brook. The bank of the brook was rather steep in places. It was uphill all the way! Ma and her friend Mrs. Wlodyka would look for mushrooms and herbs. Pauline and I picked wildflowers. We picked wild berries in season - blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries - and wild apples, good but usually wormy. We had to learn how to find and pick the non-poisonous mushrooms. Also the useful herbs for tea and medicinal purposes. Our older brother Frank was the best mushroom hunter!! When baskets and buckets were filled we set foot for home. We would stop for a short time to dangle our feet from the bridge into the icy cold water of Hoxie brook.
These words were taken from notes I found of my Mother's after she passed away. I revised them a bit to sound more like a child's words.
