I have a question for our more computer savy ladies. Do I have to buy a wireless dsl modem so Abby can get internet on her netbook or can I hook a wireless router to my modem and computer so that she can access the internet?
You should be able to hook a wireless router to your modem and then both of you share the connection. I don't have much experience with netbooks though...
Hubby left early this morning to go to Kentucky with a couple aunts and a cousin and his family. They're going to "the old homeplace" (whatever all that entails).
So I picked up Ethan from daycare, brought him home, and I've been here ever since. Kim fixed us a great dinner (Hawaiian chicken, sweet potatoes with marshmellows, green bean casserole, rolls) while I played with Ethan and kept him busy. Then she got him bathed and put to bed while I napped. (I'd only slept a couple hours last night before having to get up and take Jim to his aunt's, and then another couple hours this afternoon before going to get Ethan.) Once he was down, she & I watched "Transformers 2," which she hadn't seen yet.
She fell asleep on the couch, so I shoo'd her off to bed when the movie was over at 12:30. She hadn't been upstairs more than 5 minutes when Ethan woke up coughing. So I rocked him and tried to put him back to bed, but he kept waking up. I ended up laying on the floor next to his bed so he could hold my hand/finger. He'd go to sleep, but every time I'd try to pull away to leave the room, it would wake him up. Finally I HAD to leave to use the bathroom, and while I was gone he went into his mama's room (their usual routine).
So they're now settled in her bed and I'm up, wide awake. Go figure.
My apparent allergies seem to have turned into a bonafide upper respiratory thing. No fever, chills, aches, or other flu-ish symptoms. Just congestion in my chest, a cough that won't quit, and I can't get any of the junk to come up when I do cough.
Not sure how the rest of the weekend will shake out. I'm sure Kim is hoping I'll take Ethan for our usual Friday night so she can have some free time. And I probably will. But I may suggest that she come over to my place for the evening and then leave once he's in bed or close to it. (If she gets together with friends, it's usually later, anyhow.) Saturday will be the challenge - Ethan is used to him and Num-Num going out for Saturday afternoons to several places, usually 4-5 hours. I don't know if I can handle having him out that long. I guess we'll have to play it by ear.
Heather SHUSH!!!!!! That's like saying "MacBeth" in the theater or like saying, "It's dead," at McD's!!!!!
Little story....when I was working the opening shift at McD's a year or so ago, we were DEAD at 12:15. Middle of the lunch hour, and we were dead. (Lunch is usually our busiest time of the day.) The manager stood at the end of front line, waved her arms around, and said, "Where IS everybody? Where's all the people? We are SO DEAD!!!!"
And 15 minutes later we got TWO, count 'em, TWO buses full to overflowing. Standing room only in the lobby. I looked at the manager and said something to the tune of, "This is all YOUR FAULT!"
And I tell that story to every new hire who dares to say the word "dead" or "slow" in reference to business.
It's the same thing for us at work. We do not say "slow" and we do not say "quiet." If someone asks how the night is going, we never lump it all together ("It's pretty quiet"). We always only talk about what has already happened ("It's been pretty quiet SO FAR.")
We also never wish the incoming shift a "good day" or a "calm/quiet day." At best, we'll say, "Make the best of it. See you (whenever our shifts meet again)."
Tuesday night I had pulled out my stuff to work on Christmas cards - that's how smoothly the night was going. Someone asked me about it. I said it was something to do on the quiet nights. I got dirty looks for letting the word slip past my lips (even though I was only talking in general terms). And durnit...they called 5 minutes later with our one admission that we got that night.
Desi - happy belated birthday. Sounds like it was a good weekend for you.
Liz - Glad Geoff wasn't as sick as you'd feared.
Debbie - cute job on the scrap money jar!!
Kim & Jane...hugs and prayers to family members (immediate and extended) who are going through medical issues.
Okay...I just realized I'm only on page 14 of 23, and it's nearly 3:30, and we have to be up in 3 1/2 hours to get ready to take Ethan for his 3-year check-up. (Woo-hoo!) (Not.)
I'll catch up with you all on the new thread. Since I only work Sunday night between now and next Friday, I should be around a lot more this coming week.
