Seriously? When did a scrap forum turn into a DRAMA zone...?

If this appears hostile, then I apologize. First I love this site, I love the techniques, I love seeing other people's layouts/ scrap rooms/ suggestions.

What I dislike is the overbearing personalities/conflicts/t oo much information aspect.

In real life, yes people have issues, but please, is there a way to label your post so that those interested in actual scrapbooking as supposed to your socio/emotional/financial issues related to scrapbooking can be separated.

I know it's not a clear cut line, and people can do what they want in a public forum. I also know I can just avoid reading things we don't have time for. However, all I am asking is for you to label your posts or be mindful about unloading your burden on innocent crafters who just want to know more about stickles and the new basic grey collection.

Yellowstar, I agree with you. This website used to abide by the motto "Because Nice Matters". Apparently times have changed.

Anytime you want to talk good old fashion scrapbooking, less drama, hit me up. I am always looking for others to talk with about the craft and fun of this hobby!

I personally love the "non-scrapbook related" area of this site and have made many "fake" friends (as my dd calls them) on the venter's thread

but I do agree that on the General scrapbooking threads, the issues discussed should be scrapping (and related items) ... period

Seriously though, ANY forum, whether its about music, video games, horses, David hasselhoff- whatever- these kind of things show up. Drama, debates, arguments, silliness, oversharing- its going to happen. And I for one welcome it! I don't want us to censor ourselves or each other. I say let it all hang out! Let your freak flag fly!

People need to message those they have problems with privately if it is not related to the thread.

Debates in the NSBR forum are one thing but when people hijack General Scrabooking questions/posts that are related to scrapbooking with personal issues it becomes an issue.

Unfortunately there will always be overbearing personalities/conflicts etc in any community of this size - which is pretty vast and made up of a huge variety of folk from around the world.

I do think the NSBR is the place for 'it' ideally but it's hard to ensure that the many 1000s of members use the boards in the 'correct' way.

Also you can't always control the way a discussion goes, it just evolves, like any ordinary conversation so I think you're going to have to somehow deal with the issue because it's probably not going to change.

It reminds me of the cartoon;

Husband - "I'm going to bed now, are you coming too?"

Wife - "I can't!!"

Husband - "Why?"

Wife - "Somebody's wrong on the internet!"

there is a setting you can turn on in forum settings where you can read the first bit of the opening post when you hover your mouse pointer over it.

internet=drama. To me it's surprising how LITTLE drama is here. you should see some other sites I'm on or even just facebook!

I find it odd that someone would start a thread to complain about drama. Isn't that just creating more drama?

I thought maybe I was missing something....there's very little drama here generally I think.

For the most part, NSBR stays in NSBR. Don't like it, don't wander in there...

I try to read most things, but it's simply impossible. So if there's something that breaks board rules, let me know.

I think most misunderstandings result from the lack of knowing what "tone" the poster meant. You can't read tone. So I think sometimes people get their feathers ruffled when it is not intented too. I try and follow the "play rule". Sometimes a post doesn't need a response on my part if I don't agree or think totally differently...sometimes, I just walk away....it's okay!!!! I don't have to beat anyone down with my opinion!!!!! If a discussion gets to heated...I'm out.

I think the drama is fun sometimes. Isn't there drama in every part of life? Learning how to deal with people that have differing opinions is what makes a group of people into a society of people.

The most uncomfortable internet drama I witnessed was on a FB between husband and wife, beyotching at each other in a comment thread for at least 50 comments. I may or may not have read them all...

Not as many as you might think.

We venters are generally well behaved. Our thread has only been locked twice and it has been going on for about 2 years now if not more. Usually it is an outside person stirring up nonsense that gets us locked too.

I've only been there a few times because I just can't keep up, but why does the "Venters" thread always get mentioned and picked on in other threads? From what I read when I did visit there, it was posters who've known each other for a while chit chatting and....Venting! Pretty obvious by the title.

Why would anyone get upset about the venter's thread? I might be assuming here, but I think the thread is about venting. If you don't want to read people vent, you might not want to click.

Kendra .. many of the venters have become friends off this site as well. Some of us have met IRL. I think a few people have gotten upset when flogging one of the venters .. and other venters have come to that person's defense. The thread has NEVER been a closed thread. Daily participation is not mandatory to attend. ANd when new neighbors do drop in to check it out, they are welcomed. Because there are a number of us that are regulars and communicate off the boards as well, people thing we are a clique.

I've been known to drop in there occasionally....for no nefarious purpose.

Megan - Might I suggest some cabana boy vanilla rum in that diet coke (if your in the time zone where that is appropriate - if not give it a couple of hours ...)

"He" was my new find this weekend. Inexpensive (aka cheap) and mighty friendly.

The vanilla rum with the vanilla coke zero was remarkably ....uhm....friendly .....

Sorry it wasnt diet coke .. I have leaned more towards the coke zero for some reason lately - the diet was not sitting well with me.

And I'm sure the brooms wont talk if you share with them.

Some of the pregnancy forums i read make the drama on here seem like nothing!

Me thinks its a good thing my pregnancies were in the error of "just discovering" the internet .. we had a dinosaur of a computer at that point and I was scared to even turn it on!
