(Disclaimer, the only reason I don't want babies born on my birthday is because I know three people from my hometown, my daughter, two of her friends and I'm pretty sure *only* two of my friends, and oh yeah, my cousin all have 1/23 as a birthday. Don't want the little tyke to get overlooked with all the other births on that day)

I have two 1st cousins who share my birthday. I think it's cool because growing up I had hardly heard of anyone having a birthday in March, let alone the same birthday.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming...

I don't mind sharing birthdays ... but it does get weird when yours is the same as your MIL, and ex-SIL, and somebody else in your DH's past. And it gets REALLY weird when your DH and one of your parnetal units shares a birthday ... as in the EXACT SAME day in the same year. Yeah - weird.

I have the same birthday as my Grandma, and my brother has the same birthday as my Grandpa. It was nice sharing it growing up, but I think Grandparents are happy to share their bdays.

I used to not know anyone with my birthday, but now I have to share it with my step-grandmother, my brother-in-law and a niece...along with at least one person from my church...!

Did you all know that you only have to have a group of 23 people in order to have a 50% probability that two will share the same birthday? A group of 57 has a 99% probability that two will share the same birthday.

Yes, I'm a math geek. And, yes, those were homework questions I had to do in a probability unit at one time.


Edited to say: Those are rough estimates based on the assumption that every birthday is equally likely. Since the occurrence of births varies according to day and season, this is not exact.

My cousin and I share July 8th, as did one of my best friends in high school.

This is really cool and actually there have been studies confirming this.

If you get any group of 30 people, almost always, 2 will share a birthday. I don't understand it, but it almost always works.

One of my girlfriends read this in a magazine and was curious and tested it when she was with a group of 27 for a business luncheon. They went around the room and out of the 27 people, no one shared a birthday. Then one of the waitresses spoke up and said, "No one asked me". She produced her driver's license and it did match!

I had a red hat group of 50 ladies. I had three with March 2nd birthdays, three with the same September birthdays, and two more shared my July 8 birthday make it 3 of us sharing that birthday! I ahd two more dates with 2 ladies on it sharing a birthday!

We tried it with 12 in a crop last year and two shared a birthday.

As far a hijacking threads - I don't care. It keeps it interesting.

As far as the drama - pass the out the chocolate and pour a glass of wine. I don't care.

People talk here like they do with friends in person. They jump around and someone says something that sparks someone else's interest and the conversation is off and running. That does not bother me.

I agree - adhesives and patterned paper and organizing supplies are important subjects but how much can you talk about them? My paper trimmer is awesome to me, but I really don't have much to say about it, and a whole conversation talking about them is less than riveting after 4 or 5 pages.

Totally non-scrapbook related conversation that starts that way should be in NSBR - but when a thread takes a turn and goes in a different direction in General scrapbooking - I don't care.

And if someone wants to jump in and start drama - I'll give the floor to them. Best case scenario, its entertaining. Worst case scenario, I get bored with it and quit reading.

Summary - I think we probably should stick to topic, but when it gets off topic, I don't care.

Personally, I TRY to ignore the drama, though it's hard not to get caught up in reading it. It's the "newbies" I think about. Maybe we should ask ourselves, "What is a new person to the forum going to think if I say...?" But then someone would just come back and say they belong in the "newbies" section.. Sigh!

In my close family we have 5 people with their birthdays all in the same week at the end of November and three in the week the little dude is due in December. He's probably going to be born on someone in family's B-day.
