Question about picture sizes

Ok, this is probably a dumb question but thought I would find out how you do it.

I have a very nice photo printer that I do not use to print my photos. Many reasons...the paper gets stuck, I do not care for the finish, I print way too many photos... I am a pictureaholic and take hundreds and hundreds of pictures. We have boxes and boxes of them and also tons now stored on the computer and on cds.

When I am scrapping pictures that I have taken recently, I upload them to Walgreens and have them printed which is two minutes from my neighborhood. I have tried photo software and am extremely computer illiterate and have no patience so I cannot seem to use any of them without getting really frustrated.

Anyway, I like the smaller photos that I see in a lot of the layouts here. I usually do multi-photo layouts so instead of trimming and trying to get the look I see here, I tried to order smaller prints at Walgreens. The smallest I can have them print is 4x6. I looked at doing the collage which I may do in the future but right now I am wanting smaller photos of the same size.

Where do you get yours done and do you have any suggestions that may work for me?

I make collages using Picasa, which lets me make them all the same size. Then I upload and print that combined collage as a single 4x6.

Sometimes I do as aquabunny does and I make a collage but I have also ordered prints from Walmart and requested the 2x3" size.
We don't have Walgreens here in Canada so I can't comment on them but Walmart does do smaller sizes (2 or 4 pics on a 4x6 paper)....it's under their "collages" section when you are editing your prints.

Also, as aquabunny mentioned, Picasa is an option for editing photos. It is free, from Google. It has automatic fixes for your pictures, cropping tools and print options for smaller pics. You can also make collages of different sizes, different numbers of pics.....
It's one of the easier ones out there.

I just went to the online Walgreens site and it shows you can do a collage with up to 20 photos. I don't have an account so I could play around with it, but it looks like you just upload the pictures you want to use, then you probably can easily put the ones you want on one print. If it's like snapfish, they'll have little handles so you can adjust the size to what you want so that if you have 4 photos on one print, they don't all have to be the same size. You should be able to crop, brighten, etc. also. If you have an account with them, just play around it. It won't cost you until they want a credit card :>)

They also do the collage prints in 5x7 & 8x10, so it might be more cost effective to do bigger prints and cut them down as needed.~Judy

I use Photoshop Elements and make a 4x6 canvas. I then add the pictures that I want to use to the canvas and size them to whatever size I need. When I upload them to be printed, I just print them as a 4x6 then use a trimmer to cut them out when I get the prints back.

Now that is what I need to do. I bought Photoshop Elements with my laptop - never used it.

I am more of a snap and print - I don't look at the photos much let alone correct them.

But I need to scan the family photos and they are 3x3 - if I scan as is and try to print, they were being stretched and cropped - not where they should be.

One of these days I will take the time to figure out how you actually do that.

PS - still want your dog lol.

I have never tried Walmart, I will definitely take a look at their site. I just spent 20 minutes with my Walgreens account looking at the collage option. I can do 3 sizes of collages but the pictures are all different sizes on the collage and it does not give me the option of changing the picture size. Arg!
It includes all the other editing features but not a size edit within the collage.

I tried Picasa awhile back and could not figure it out. Maybe I will try again when I have a lot of time to spend.

I have a Sony laptop and I believe it had photoshop on it but I have never tried to use it..

I guess there is not a fast and EASY solution. LOL! I just need to take time to figure it out and not get frustrated.

I love both photoshop and picasa. Both are good and get easier to use with practice. I also want those small pics and just for the life of me never thought of doing a collage of them before printing. Great idea..

What everyone else said. I use collage feature (usually with Picasa).

Also, if you are not concerned with wasting some photo paper, both Photoshop and Picasa will let you print in various sizes. You can choose to print 2x3 on a 4x6 sheet of photo paper.....

I use Walgreens too, but I order online (pick up at store) and use PhotoSheet (photility.com) to make smaller sizes.

I too like using smaller photos because I like putting a lot on a page. (Check out my Wipe Out page in my gallery). I get my developed as wallets and I do it at Walmart.

Does walgreens have an option of white borders around prints? walmart does, but unfortunately they are not adjustable. if walgreens has ones that are adjustable, then you can print pics with huge white borders which you can cut out later. i did this a few times (collage in picasa with one pic with large borders) when i wanted a pic printed smaller than 4*6 but larger than 4*3.

I use WORD for all my photo prints. It's easy to import an image to a WORD document and resize it as needed. You can fit a bunch of images on a single page, using regular 8 1/2" x 11" photo paper.

WORD also includes a cropping tool, so you can trim around your image after resizing it right on the computer. Make the margins very small to fit a lot of images on a page.

I use walgreens and make collages for smaller prints. On the collages, they have the option to change border size and color. Usually 2 pictures on the 4x6 print works for me but I have also done 3 or 4 pictures on 4x6 for smaller pictures.

If you can make a collage with a separate website or program, then upload to Walgreens, then print as print not collage it is much cheaper(just check the walgreens preview for border cutoff).

4x6 are usually on sale at Walgreens.

I just downloaded Picasa for free... and made my first collage. It's awesome to work with.

I have photoshop, I have used picassa and I have the memory manager software from creative memories. I use all of these programs. There is no rhyme or reason to my madness but I like all of the programs that I use to get smaller prints. I generally print on Shutterfly or Creative Memories and both of these places give me the option to print smaller photos as well. Shutterfly does a lot of sales and you can get a lot of free prints with them which I love!

Picmonkey has an awesome and sooooo easy to use collage function. I love it. Before I found Picmonkey, I used photo utility, which is also really user friendly.

Photoshop Elements has a contact sheet print feature in the browser. You can print multiple photos and you don't waste paper.

I usually use Photoshop Elements if I'm printing at home. If I want to make a collage, I use Picasa. And if I'm printing a lot of pictures, then I use Shutterfly. I've tried both Shutterfly and Snapfish, and I prefer Shutterfly.

I never thought to use the Picasa collage feature, but I will definitely use that from now on! What I WAS doing was printing wallet size photos. It works, but you get 4 pictures (or 2, depending on where you send them to be printed) of the same photo. And wallets are more expensive than 4X6 prints.

ETA: I usually print at Walgreens and pick up in store. I get emails when they're having sales (which is every week). I just never think to upload my photos and order them to be shipped so I really like the pick up in store function.

I love Walmart for photos. I've created several photo collages....you can get them in different sizes. Their photo quality is much better than my local Walgreens. The last batch of photos I ordered from Walgreens I returned...they had a blue tint to them.

Walmart Photo Center, you can pick 4 different pics to be included in your wallet size...you can also order on-line and pick up in store...

But, I fiddled with Picasa yesterday and I found out how to put multiple pictures on one 4X6 to then upload to print. I guess it's hit or miss, but my Walgreens has better picture quality than my Walmart stores did.
