fat albums

My first scrapbook I'm working on turned out to be a lot more pages than I thought it would be! I had bought a Making Memories 12x12 black leather album, like the one in the superstore here, but it looks like the binding is coming apart.

So... does anyone have any suggestions for an album that holds lots and lots of 12x12 pages (and preferably in leather)? (Or, does anyone know how to fix the binding on the current album I have?)

I just had that problem when I did my vacation photos. Too many pictures and not enough album I don't know wha tkind of album you could use but perhaps just split it into two albums.

If it is post bound you can get posts up to 3-4 inches long. I always use those little chipboard or foam strips that are available at most LSS's. Rule of thumb - for every 5 page protectors insert one of the strips. That way the pages lay flat. No wedgie albums. Hope this helps. BTW - depending on the thickness of the embellies, you might have to decrease the # of page protectors per strip.

I have this problem all the time. I have the perfect solution. Go to Joanns (or another fabric store) and get some vinyl. I got some in each color. It was about 10.00 per yard. I got each one in 12 inch widths so I'll be getting about 10 albums out of each strip I think, because the rolls were about 4 feet tall I'd guess. It's marine vinyl so it's really sturdy. anyway, I just poked holes in it w/ my crop a dile...It works great and it way sturdier than the paper binding they put in most. I could only find 3 colors at my joanns....black, Navy and burgundy...which all I needed except hunter green. Still on the hunt for that one!!!

I don't use the cardboard strips. I removed the posts and put those pioneer thingies in. I have some really fat albums and it works great. Every layout lays flat when the book is opened. I understand from what I've seen and read and heard that my scrapbook album will hold up to 150 pages using those straps instead of the posts. I don't think I'm going to do that because the albums are heavy enough!

I also like to use the pioneer strips in my post-bound albums-the pages just seem to sit better in there.

If you are looking at going to another album I have a strap-hinge that currently has about 103 (back to back) pages in it.. Here is a picture...

It's heavy but it is still together.. Mine is a west-trim something or other-one from Michaels' but i know creative memories sells them as well..

I usually fit about 35 pages in my CM albums before they get too heavy for me. Please PM me, if you are interested in Creative Memories albums.

my dear sweet friends... i did a 85 page album, very heavy, and you know, I bought the extra long posts.. they are over an 1.25" long, and you know, it worked, i dont have to worry about tension pulling on the album. I wont make another big one like that, but for this album i had too... i hope that helps, i got the posts on ebay, but you can check your lss, i checked michaels and joann fabrics, and they didnt have them. So shop around, and if you use the extra long posts, they will hold alot of weight, and you dont have to worry about the albums breaking down...

Thanks for that info! I don't ever want to make a book this big again, but I found the extenders and even the cardboard spacers sold separately at A.C. Moore. Good to know for the future!!

Close to My Heart has awesome leather albums that can expanded to 4". Love them!

I converted my post albums to the strap-lock hinges plus I added pioneer spacer strips every 5 pages - they are big and fat and FLAT!

I've converted postbound albums with Snapload fasteners in order to accommodate all the pages in our wedding/honeymoon album (which will consist of 2 books); they are working great with many pages!

I also use good ol' 3 ring binder albums; those fit a lot of pages.

Yeah, the spine part that hides the edges of the pages. The vinyl rocks..I use the pioneer snap load strips too and now I can make my albums so much thicker. I hated it when the paper they give you for the spine rips. this is so much sturdier.
