Cricut Cutting Mats

The cutting mat that came with my cricut had a plastic protective piece covering it. After I used the cricut I put the plastic piece back on the mat and put it away. The next time I pulled my cricut out to use it, I pulled the pastic cover off the mat and when I did, most of the sticky was on the plastic cover!

So now, my cricut mat is basically not sticky, are you not supposed to store them with the plastic protector? How do you store yours?

I stored mine just as you did.

did the protective sheet pull the adhesive off the mat when you tried to take it off?

This is EXACTLY what happened to me the other day when I first tried out my Expression. I used it once, put the "cover" back on the mat and the next time I went to use it, the "cover" literally was stuck to the mat. It was so hard to pull it off and when I finally did, you could SEE the sticky stuck to the "cover":(

This has never happened to me before with my smaller bug. I always replaced the "cover" back on the mat and never had any problems with it.

This happen to anyone else???

That's very odd. I would definatly call the company, cause that is not supposed to happen.

I don't have a cricut...but I would call customer service.

I've had my cricut for over a year, using plenty of mats. I always store mine with the clear protective cover on, and the sticky has never come off onto it. I would definitely contact customer service and let them know.

I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what happens. I never thought to give them a call. I thought maybe you weren't supposed to store them that way.

My newest cutting mat did that, too. I've never had that problem before.

Try calling the company. I hear they have excellent customer service!!! Someone here said that this happened to her and they sent her two new replacements without asking too many questions....HTH! I bought two sets of extra mats w/ my expression...Just cause....

I just had that happen with one of my new mat although it happened the first time I pulled the cover off right out of the package!

I guess we'll all be calling. They were just way sticky.

I called Cricut's customer service today and this is a pretty common problem apparently. So...They are sending me 2 new cutting mats!

is this a problem with only the new mats and now the smaller ones for the original cricut?

This has never happened to me, but I have 2 new mats that I haven't opened yet, will have to keep in mind that this is a possibility.

the reason that it happened to some of you and not to others is because it depends on which side of the plastic protective cover you use. for whatever reason, one side causes the sticky to come off the mat. the other side does not affect the sticky. they really should identify the proper side much better because people have this problem. i had to take a sharpie and mark which side went against the mat and which side should not touch the mat. i think that will solve the problem. of course, i would also call the company and complain because most people i know use the clear plastic as a cover, they should know that and they should make it easier for the user to use that cover without ruining the mat.

I never thought about that being the problem. I'll definitely start marking the protective sheet and hopefully I won't have a problem any more. Thanks for the advice!

I (thankfully) have not had that problem. I store my mats with the plastic on it. Contact the Cricut/Provocraft customer service. My guess is that they would send you a new one.

I have not had this issue with mine. However, I have read on several other sites that this is an issue cricut is having with some mats. I would call their customer service. I've heard really good things about their customer service.

I did want to pass along a tip I received from someone about the cricut mats- when they work properly that is- to wipe them down with a wet-wipe, let it dry and some of the sticky comes back. I tried it and it worked! Left on the wet wipe was little paper dust that I couldn't even see was there before wiping it off! Anyways, just wanted to pass this tip along - any little thing like this to help them last longer is a good thing!

I too always use the protective mat on mine, that's what it's for.. I have never had a problem with losing stickiness. I have been using mine since Christmas and still has a lot of stick left on it. That's odd!

Well, I have never had that happen to me; i have the small Cricut! but they do have raving fan customer service!

I got my cutting mats yesterday! They sent them fed ex!
I'll definitely be labeling the front of the protective cover. Hopefully I won't have this problem again.
