Memorial Scrapbook Ideas

Hello all,

I am new to the forum and hope to learn a lot! I am in the midst of trying to create a memorial book for my SD/SS (who are now in their 20's) of their mother (who passed from breast cancer several years ago). I would like to have one that focuses on mother/daughter and then another for mother/son.

I am struggling trying to organize the theme for each page. Do I start with a page about the mother (when she was born, etc.) and then one of the child, then special events they shared?

I would greatly appreciate any ideas or suggestions you may have or even point me to a thread where this topic may have been discussed previously.

This sounds like a wonderful project for you to do, and it sounds like you have some great starting points already. I think they'll treasure it!

Hi, there. A memorial album was my first scrapbook ever. I did a book for my gram about my dad. The first page was his baby pics and sort of like a dedication page. Then I did his school and some childhood pics, then each LO after that had its own theme (things he loved, like father like son, like father like daughter, military pics, etc). I didn't do them in any particular order. The last page had his prayer card and info from the funeral, plus a poem that I found online. For your project, I'd suggest that the first page be a dedication page about her birth and her life in general. I'd end with a poem or something about mothers. Then for the LOs in the middle, just organize what pictures you have and start making LOs about them. You can always put them into the book after every LO is done. For this type of thing, I don't think chronological is even necessary. JMO.

I am currently working on a memorial album of my DH, which is geared to be for myself and is my therapy about the loss. However, I also made one for his parents. For that one, I did something similar as I had done with my dad's: dedication page, pages about his hobbies, likes, fave places, and then the final page had a bunch of miscellaneous pics from his life.

Here's an example of a page I did for his parents' album. It's got pics of my DH in one of our fave places (Williamsburg), then the journaling has some details about his particular favorites.

Gina, your layout is awesome! It is just so easy to get overwhelmed and I feel like I have a ton of ideas but want to really get this right.

I am a surviver of motherloss and I hope to do a book about my mother for my children. They never met my mother as she passed when I was 16 but I cherish her memory daily.

I hope to have a few layouts done this weekend and would love feedback on what I could do to improve etc.

You're right...it is so easy to get overwhelmed. I hope you're able to work on it this weekend and get things organized so you don't feel so overwhelmed, though. I think once you organize the pics and your ideas, and set a plan for how you want to carry out the book, you'll see that things fall right into place!

Check out my gallery -- I just recently did a memorial book of my father. I just did it in chronological order. That seemed best to me.

This thread may help, similar question. When my father passed away I had people(family/friends, etc.) Write down their favorite memories of my dad on a piece of card stock to put in my album. It was so great to read these and to help us remember my dad. On the attached thread I wrote a little bit more about this.
