Album Color Scheme?

When you do an album, do you pick just a few colors for the whole album so it coordinates? Or do you use colors that coordinate with your pictures, so each page is a different color?
I like to coordinate my paper with the pics. What do you like to do? Are there any rules?

I have all different colored albums. It might look nicer on display to have them all similar though.
I started using the Library of Memories system which calls for unifying your color albums buy the theme of the album, but I'm not sure if I'll do that or not.

I do each layout separately depending on the pictures, but I almost always do double-page layouts, so at least each spread is consistent...I sometimes do mini and theme albums all the same, and they do look more "polished"...BUT - always remember, there are NO rules!!

My albums are a willy-nilly hodge podge of memories. Which is funny because every other aspect of my life is so organized & "clean".

Only if I'm doing a themed album--a vacation or Christmas usually. Otherwise an album to me is just something to hold each individual LO; not something I feel needs to be coordinated.

All different, albums (so I can tell them apart on the shelf) and pages. I match the colours to the photos not the theme. Mini albums are different though - I think all mine have had a colour scheme.

Mine are a bit of both.

D1's wedding album is navy blue (her wedding colors were navy and yellow) and the pages inside are all from DCWV Once Upon A Time. I have a separate photo album from her photographer.

DS's wedding albums are red and black (their wedding colors).

D2's albums are baby pink for her early years, lime green for middle & high school, because lime green is her fav color. Her rodeo albums are brown leather.

My albums for just DH and I are red, because I like red.

My personal albums are various shades of purple, because purple is my fav color.

Like someone else said - there are NO rules! Do what you like!

I don't do a matching album unless it's a theme like a wedding then i use the color theme of the wedding. My friend had a black white and red wedding so i used those colors and accented it with silver and gold

It depends on the book. My childhood book is willy nilly. The only coordinating thing about it is the cover, as there are 2 books with that theme. Same with my kids...all girls, all have pink covers, but the engraving is different.

My Spain trip had coordinating paper, though, because I bought and used a paper pack that reminded me of Spain. It turned out really nice, so much that now I'm addicted to paper packs. (I'm addicted more because it was so easy to put the scrapbook together...I just had to coordinate embellies to the page theme, and find solid cardstock to coordinate with the paper packs.)

Do what YOU love.

In regards to my kids albums, I scrap to the photos, so there are different colors but the book is organized chronologically.

When I do a chipboard album or mini I usually go with a specific manufacturer collection so its easier to put together.

I am another one who thinks, this is a creative outlet, you have to go with what works for you. Its also okay to choose one way and change it later.

I've done both. I did a heritage album that has that "feel" throughout the whole album. I'm also working on a Boy Scout album for a friend and that has more of an outdoors appearance. Otherwise I go with the what will draw out the photos more on the LO. I think both ways are fun to create. Part of the challenge in the creative process.

I pretty much scrap to the photos, but plan to redo my wedding photos in lavender/purple/white as my wedding colors

I only match with themed albums. It used to give me heart palpitations to not use the same color scheme throughout an album of random layouts. I'm glad I got over that, though, because it was too restricting trying to make everything all matchy-matchy for a non-themed album.

I don't think I've ever done a book in just one color scheme. Even my wedding album has a multitude of colors and styles going on! I really scrap to the pictures and how I see them coming together in my head.

As others have said though, there is no right or wrong way! Just have fun with it.

I pretty much match my paper to my photos. I have a wedding album to do for my DS and DIL that I'd like to do in a specific color scheme, but I don't think I'll be able to stick with it-- as someone else mentioned, it might be too constricting.

smaller albums (8x8 or smaller) I usually keep to one color scheme, but with 12x12 albums all bets are off

With the larger albums I just do each LO and the colors may or may not coordinate from page to page (though I do usually coordinate the 2 pages facing each other)

For me it depends on what the album is about, right now im making a baby book for my sister so the whole thing is pinks, whites and purples. But if im just making a random album i just use whatever colors match the pictures i took. But like Madmatter said i also try to keep the pages that are facing each other the same color schemes.

I only use "matching" or "complimenting" colors for facing open pages. I feel that when you open a scrapbook, there should be some continuity between two pages facing each other. Luckily, using "complimenting" colors is easy to do. I don't like ANYTHING too matchy-matchy!

My scrapbooks are basically my family photo albums, so every page is different. I also do NOT scrap my pages chronologically, but do arrange them in my albums that way. So, it would be very difficult to even coordinate facing pages.


I have done mini albums of one event. For example, a camping trip, or Prom. Those I do coordinate colors.

Greetings, family album scrapbooker!

My first 6 scrapbooks were family album scrapbooks. I did 2 for my mom, 1 for my grandma, and 2 for my boyfriend's family. Then I did one for my brother, which was just of him. I have burned through all my family pictures (and I do mean ALL--mom gave me all the pictures she had, too).

My mini books are always a coordinated theme of papers and colors. My albums are whatever works for the picture/event. I might have two pages side by side that have nothing to do with each other.
