Xyron Sticker Maker

Topic Closed
  • CommaHolly
OK, I've noticed that alot of you like your sticker makers, and I'm thinking of getting one,,,,,but there's alot of Xyron s out there,,,

What exactly is the difference,,,,,size, I think,,size of the sticker? Or size of the amount of adhesive it can hold???,,what do you like about them??? What size is a good size for you? And why is it a good size for you?

Any other differences??? What CANT it do?

    Any thoughts?? Holly

I have the little "X" one and love it for small things, especially things I cut on the cricut.

The thing I use it the most for though is ribbon...works like a charm.

My thoughts on the bigger one is if the piece is big enough for the bigger one, then I can just use regular adhesive....the tape refills for the Xyron 's are quite pricey. Using the bigger one for small things would be wasting alot of adhesive.

I have the Xyron 150 and love it for smaller items, like Patti. It is great for letters!

I also have the Xyron 510 and I LOVE it! Yes, the refills are pricey, but I only buy them when they are on sale for 50% off at Michaels or AC Moore and I usually stock up. I like it for vellum, intricate dies, for larger fonts, etc.

I too love my Xyron s. The best adhesive for small things. I have the "X", the 250, the 510 and the 900. The most used is the X and the 510. I like the way you can change it from permanment to repositional. I just put the unused cartridge in a ziplock bag.
  • CommaHolly
I think you've convinced me to buy the 250 for sure,,,,,not sure I'd need the 510 though,,,seems kind of big for the sizes I'd need. Holly
  • Tivi
I have 2 - the little X (150) and the 510. The little one is a MUST for letters, especially with a Cricut! Some letters go in by themselves, the skinny letters (like L, I) can go in together so you don't waste so much. It's also great for the smaller shapes cut with the cricut.
I use the 510 for bigger letters. I can fit them side by side usually.

Oh, and buy the refills when they are 40 or 50% off. Stock up, you'll always use them!

And this is why I love it when people ask questions. I didn't even know it was possible to make my own stickers!

Mostly what I expect to use it for is ribbon and letters, Tivi,,,

Do you think that the 250 is too big then??? Perhaps I'll be wasting too much,,,,,maybe I should get the smaller one,,,,I usually tend to make my letters about 2-3 inches and often in the shadow so I thought I might need the 250,,,

FYI.....I use my 510 more than my 250....

You would definitely need at least the 250 then, possibly the 510. With the 510 and the 900 though you can laminate and make magnets, which is pretty neat.

OK, that's what I was thinking,,,,

so what's the size of the 510 vs the 250??

what size objects do they "stickify"?? Holly

I have the 'x', a 500 and a 900. I use the 'x' for cricut letters and ribbons and I use the 500 and 900 for pictures, paper and embellies. I LOVE all three of them!
  • Tivi
I'm thinking that you would waste a lot using the 250 for ribbon. The X (150) is really cheap. I think Wally has them for around $6 or $7. Using a coupon at M's or J's is even cheaper.

In general, the model number is the width (in inches) of the stickem paper. The 150 X is 1.5 inches wide, the 250 is 2.5 inches wide, etc.

If you make most letters at 2 or 2.5 inches, plus the shadow behind the letters, your letters won't fit in the 150 X. You could put at least 2 letters side by side in the 550 X without wasting too much. A letter cut at 2.5 inches won't necessarily fit into the 250 X, the shadow certainly won't fit. Then you could also get the 150 X for your ribbon.

I have the 150 X and the 505 (an older version of the 510 - using the same cartridges). I like them both and use them both for various purposes.

I think I would recommend getting both these sizes.

I do find that the 150 X is too small for some of my lettering. But it is generally perfect for ribbons and smaller pieces (including some of my smaller lettering). The cartridges are pretty cheap for this machine too.

The 510 size is great for somewhat bigger things... and of course it can help you out if you find something won't fit in the smaller one. I don't normally feel the need for anything in the middle of the two sizes because generally I have enough to send through this one to fill up my adhesive space. And, I have not found a desire to have anything larger sized yet.
  • CommaHolly
well the only one they HAD at J's was the 150, so that's the one I bought,,,,,I bought it with the thought that if I liked it I could always buy the bigger one, and I'd know which one to buy,,,sounds like I'd probably buy the 510,,,

    we'll see how it goes,,,

    thanks Holly

I like the 150 for small items and the 250 for medium sized and the 505/510 for the larger items and to make magnets and laminates. I want to get the 900 for my portfolio basically I am a big Xyron junkie they're awesome.
  • Tivi
No one has mentioned the buggers yet. Make sure you rub around the letter (or whatever) and especially in the holes before you peel off the top sheet.

  • Pearlygadget
I have the X and the 510 and I love them... the only problem I seem to have is I am always running out of the refills... I use them alot more than not...
  • CommaHolly
LOL, one of the buggars I've found is do NOT introduce your children and grandchildren to them,,,

because they will find EVERYTHING to make stickers of,,,,

yes,,,,everything,,,inclu ding Coupons , business cards, and pieces of paper they find on the floor leftover from scrapping,,,

my grandson loves the danged thing,,,,,thinks it's the best invention since sliced bread or the telephone,,,

I was going to ask if you introduced your DGS to X yesterday!
  • CommaHolly
um, DGS is second BFF with X,,,,,,,only followed shortly behind Cricut!!!!!!!!

    I have the X, 500 and 900. The 500 I take to crops.
The 900 I use at home. The the 500 and 900 you are suppose to put as many items as possible in place before activating, that way you cut down on waste.

I use them to put adhesive on all the papers first before I use the paper to cut with diecutters.

I also use them to put adhesive on the back of the photos.
  • CommaHolly
Dot,,,does the Cricut (or whatever die cut machine you use) give you a problem cutting that paper when you put the adhesive on the back???

I've cut self-adhesive paper before on my cricut and it kind of sticks to itself a bit when I cut,,,,,not horribly, but I can see it,a sort of jagged edge when I cut,,,

I have the X and the 510. LOVE em both. I have no need for the 250 since if it's too big for the X it'll take my duck roller adhesive or I can put several things together into the 510. I use the X for my sizzix letters and ribbon mostly. The die cuts go into the 510 and pictures get the duck. Clear as mud huh?
  • Mercytiara
lol Holly! I just got my X last week and am loving it for tiny punch-out shapes. I never thought of introducing it to my DDs, but I can see how they would LOVE it. I will heed your warning because I can't afford to sticker everything in my house!
  • CommaHolly
LOL,,,,,,I shoulda got the bigger one!!!!!! I mean I REALLY SHOULDA GOT THE BIGGER ONE!!!!!!

the X just isn't big enough!!!! Oh, it's good for ribbon,,,,,but I make my letters, in general, about the 2 inch size, shaddowed,,,,
