cutting page protector for hidden journaling

Has anyone done hidden journaling by cutting a slit in the page protector? I have a post bound album with page protectors sealed on 3 sides. I was think of making a sliding tab, with a ribbon and eyelet to pull, on the side of the page. I would making the ribbons like divider tabs where they moved down the page. I have 50 total (25 front/back) pages to journal and would use one tab for 2 f/b pages.

My other idea was to do it out the top, but I will have a letter from each of the children and grandchildren coming out the top. This album is for my mother-in-law and contains a 2 pages on each of the 6 kids and a page each on the grandkids.

And I can't do this on the front because I don't have room on most pages.

Has anyone done this?
Will the page protectors tear?
Other ideas for doing this?

I haven't tried cutting the page protector - I'm scared to! But I know people do this. What about doing the tags at the top of the page so you could pull them out, and not have to cut the protector?

Welcome to the group Teresa! It may be easier having them come from the top. However, as long as you don't put the pull tab too close to the top you should be fine without it tearing. I also think it depends on who makes the page protectors.

I've cut page protectors for accordian books and it worked out pretty well. So it's always worth a try.

What about putting the letters behind your page? and attach a thin ribbon to pull them out? I love hidden journaling as it give me more space, but hate the idea of people touching my pages.

Thank you for posting that!!! I've always thought gosh how do you show off anything that needs to be flipped up or pulled out? I mean do you have to pull it out of the page protector every time, that would mess up the page!!

I cut a page protector it worked fine..I used an really sharp razor blade

I've never had a problem cutting the page protectors, variety of manufactures too. Just be careful making a cut too far towards the top, it could tear.

I hve cut mine... and I have tags that slide in and out... Check my gallery to see the pictures...

Thanks for asking the question, and thanks for the hints. I had never thought of using ribbon. Sometimes you want journaling that is more private, and this takes care of it!

Yup. I slice mine with an Exacto knife. As much as I may not want people touching my LO, it's worse to be pulling the page in and out to access the hidden stuff, and I don't always want to put the hidden stuff across the top of the page.

Yes, I cut the protectors, too. I first put the page in the sheet, then with a water-based marker, mark the line I need to cut (this wipes off easily), then put an acrylic mini-cutting board inside the sleeve before I cut, so I don't cut all the way through to the back sheet, too! Works well!!

I've cut page protectors too and never had a problem with them ripping. I used an exacto-knife or a box cutter.
