Transparencies

When using transparencies, how important is the type you use? (The type made for copiers are $10-$15 cheaper & include more sheets than the type made for ink jet printers) Is it a quality issue or jamming issue? Any other tips for using this medium??

I don't know all there is to know about them, but I do know that the ones made for copiers should not be used in printers because the ink doesn't 'set'. Also, when using trans. in your printer, remember to set your printer to 'transrarency' (do this for printing on vellum as well). Hope this helps you some!

I have been "playing with transparencies" I have overhead transparencies for ink jet printers. I Have had great luck with them. I did notic, that if you print any lighter colors on them print in bold and go one or two shades darker. I also found that if you can plan ahead ofr several pages (lol) then you can print more on the them. hope this helps.

Some transparencies don't work well in printers, the ink just sits on it and does not really dry. My dad is a professor at a university and he had some OLD transparencies (like from the 70's) and when I use those, it takes quite a few days for the ink to set.

Transparencies for inkjets have a textured side that helps the ink hold on and dry quickly. Some even have a "right" and a wrong side. If you print with an inkjet on the wrong side or non inkjet transparenices, the ink may pool up and run. It looks like others have gotten around this by extending the dry time. If the ink isn't dry it can smear off and ruin the page. The texture on these transparencies keeps them from being perfectly clear. This can be very apparent against some backgrounds.

Copier and Laser Printer Transparencies are not as textured, and are able to withstand the heat from the machines. If you use a non-copier or inkjet transparency, they can melt, and cause a huge mess that may need a technician to fix.

Those transparancies will work well if you want to try the home made rub-ons though. They work for that and the ones from the inkjet printer don't...they allow the ink to dry too quickly and you can't get it rubbed off in time.
