Hello fellow scrappers!

Here's the story--I was ready to move up to the next level, and try something new. In the scrapbook store I had it narrowed to stamps or chalks. The cheaper choice was chalks obviously. I'm very happy with my purchase, but I don't know how to use it! Does anyone have any creative ideas for chalk designs on a lo? What do you use chalk for? I'm on my way to browse the galleries, but I thought I should ask your opinions straight up. Thanks for reading! Happy scrapping, and have a wonderful holiday!

I've used it mostly for shading. It adds dimension to paper pieced pictures, etc. That's what I mostly use it for, but I have made my own background paper (it was sand and water - the beach) and that turned out well.

I've used it when I tore cardstock. I used brown chalk on white so it looked like it was burnt. But ink works well for that. I didnt use my chalks enough so I gave them away.

Lauri, here are a couple examples of the way I use chalks. The first is light blue chalk around the edges of the snowman, torn card stock. The second is to give an aged appearance to the papers on this music related lo. Started using chalks first, so that was what I was most comfortable with, but have recently started using inks, especially the ranger distressing inks for the same thing.
With the chalks, I use the cotton ball applicators, load it with chalk, and apply with a circular motion. Vary amount of chalk, size of circular motion, and pressure to achieve desired result. Hope this helps some!

I use chalk mainly to make a paper darker or lighter. If I can't find the exact shade of cardstock I'm looking for, then I can just put some chalk on it with cotton balls and I have the color I need! I also use it to emphasize a word in a poem or card. There's a poem in my gallery that I made for a swap and I just put some chalk on a couple of the words to make them stand out. Hope that helps!

I use chalk mainly on the edges of torn cardstock or torn vellum. Have used it to highlight the edges of dry embossing also, for example, a snowflake.
