Question about using items from everyday

Hi,
How do I know if I can use everyday items?
Sometimes I may want to use a piece of ribbon from a gift, a piece of clothing or a tag from something. How do I know if I can use them or other items?

fabric is generally ok.

otherwise, get a ph testing pen. they're fairly inexpensive and will test the ph level (aka: acidity or baseness) of items.

i can't help you with this question, but i usually just use what i like... guess my albums won't survive me this way, but what would be an album without keepsakes?

if you are real concerned, just use them on your cardstock... but dont let them touch your pictures. Sometimes I do and sometimes i dont. I figured at least i'll still have half my pictures in good shape if they get ruined....LOL
