Preplanning LOs

Okay, I'm still new to scrapbook and my approach so far has been: print my pictures, look at mags for lo ideas, make my pics work for what I want to do. It ain't workin' too well! My pics are never the right sizes that they work well when I crop them down.

How do you plan LOs? Pre-sketch? Any software out there? I could use some direction so that I can print my pictures the right size.

I use Sketchs.

Sketches are the best way to start... If you check out the gallery you will see a lot of sketches... For me I like to look at a sketch for an idea and then work from there... My layout may not turn out exactly like the sketch but I gets me started...

There is a site that has some printable forms that I use al lot to plan my pages. The forms have grid lines so that you can sketch in the size of your photos, borders, etc. There are forms for one and tow page layouts in both 8 1/2 x 11 and 12 x 12.

This is something I have done sense I started a couple of years ago- I choose my picture- then I find a lo for a idea ( I DO NOT copy the lo, I use it for a idea to go off of.) I use color that are small amounts in my pic or a color that say me me to use as my primary color. then I use accent colors for the photo as well. The idea of the lo that I am looking at is for a beginning line- i change them most of the time completely but there has been times where I leave it just like the lo i am scraplifting. Does this make any sense? I also try to choose a odd number of colors or pp to use on the lo.

Well not that this helps but I just scrap. . .

I get the pic I want to scrap, match up some paper (I'm the type that has to pull a color out of my picture and then everything has to match it), lay it out and then add some embies, lastly I glue everything down. I usually will get a base idea from a magazine ad, sketch, or other LO but rarely do I end up actually lifting the whole LO.

Sketches are a great help .......here is the link from the gallery...there are so many you will never run out!!!

I guess I am the odd ball. I don't use sketches. I just decide how each different picture would look the best when I crop it, crop it that way, and then move them aroung on the paper until I like it. Then I put embellishments wherever they will fit.
