Will the Scrapping addiction die down eventually?

I think the industry has grown because technology has grown......we have digital cameras, home printers, copiers, and Kodak photo paper and computers, developing pictures is easy and fast and the possibilites are endless in the comfort of your own home.

I think the time will come when all scrapbooking will be done digitally and we will wonder why we had such big chunky albums way back in the year 2005.

I certainly hope not!!! I'm loving it! Each day that passes I get more and more excited about ! The only way it will "die down" is if we let it. I think are are all dedicated to this.... so it won't go anywhere!

REMEMBER LADIES......(AND GENTLEMEN!) KEEP THOSE MEMORIES ALIVE....SCRAP THEM!

I don't think it will die down, either. Not only is scrapbooking a hobby, but we're carrying on a legacy. Maybe some techniques will fade, but as long as the sentiment is there, the scrapbooks will be, too.

What's this "addiction" stuff that you are talking about???? Who is addicted???? Surely, nobody that *I* know!

I still need details about this new B'ham store! Have you been??? Is it awesome??? Do I need to plan a trip to the inlaws???

Oh, and the scrapbook business die down??? I Hope not, but I sometimes think... geez, we use bread ties, hardware, and panty elastic... what the heck could we possibly use next??? And then I go to the store and see preprinted popcicle sticks!

I don't know that it will keep the popularity it now has, but I can't see it fading out completely. There are so many people that really want to keep their "memories" for generations. I am one of them. I have been "scrapbooking" for five or six years now, but before then, I was always looking for new, safer ways to keep my photos. I'll never be 'caught up' but I don't stress about that anymore. I just scrap what I feel like, and keep all my pictures safe.

I started scrapping in the 60s (oh my!). It has never died, but it certainly has changed. And all the archival things make it more attractice. Interesting thought that all will be digital. I'm not sure completely--some of us also like the tangible memoribilia too. No question, though, sbing is definitely on a roll right now! But even in the last year it appears more people are making their own embellishments, buying fewer stickers, pre-made things. For me, cardmaking is the next hot topic--in a few years I'll save back all the money I've put in machines and stamps!

I don't think it will die down. I think the number of people doing it will steadily increase with time. However, I don't think the amount of money some people spend is sustainable forever. When times get tough (eg a recession) people will stop buying anything except paper and fancy embellishment sales will probably drop considerably. But, we'll all keep scrapping!

I know for myself I may be more into it at times then others but I cant see myself ever stopping completely! As long as I have a camera and some double-sided tape...I wont quit!

It's been around too long to die out....I still have one of the old books with just "construction paper" pages from like 1980.... I think it's "recently" had a "face lift" and sparked new interest with all the new goodies, plus the internet helps!!! Look at all of us

I hope not, I just started this last July. I still plan to do it even if it isn't cool...lol. If it does die down you will see me on Ebay like a mad woman buying up all the old, passe' supples! What...a Sizzix Alphabet set for $3, sold!!

If you look at other hobbies like quilting, cross stitch, or woodworking, they have cycles of popularity but certainly never go away in between. I imagine scrapping will be the same, with the added bonus that a scrapbook is a lasting piece of family history, more specific and informative than a quilt (though not as warm, lol!).

That's what they said 10 years ago, and it's an even bigger industry now. I don't see it fading into the shadows...it's no different than knitting, embroidery, or quilting. It's a craft that definitely holds its own.

I have heard that scrapbooking is a billion dollar industry.....I have heard that it is just a fad but will go away quickly in just a few years.....I personally don't belive all of this since there are sooooo many products out there and so many companies manufacturing and in competition with each other. I think scrapbooking has hit an all time high but I don't see it just disappearing in a few years......
Scrapbooking has always been around. I had my own book that I still have when I was in 1st grade........I think it has just bettered itself with all of the new stuff.

What's your opinion on this?

I don't think it will die down. There will always be something new, and with digital scrapbooking even those who don't have time to sit down and get out all their stuff, etc, can sit at the computer and make their own pages. I, myself, can't see myself stopping, I will always love preserving my family's memories.

I do NOT think scrapbooking will ever die out. When you think about it its kind of been around for a lot longer than people realize. Like my Mom in the early 80s would use a magnetic album, ribbon, construction paper, and always did journaling. I think that was the beginning of scrapbooking.

I can't see myself going back and just putting my photos in albums. I do believe that there are certain items in scrapbooking that will come and go, and there will be some people who will get caught up in the hype and won't continue with it, but I think this is something that will continue - it might not get this type of attention forever, but I don't think it will ever go away.

I don't think it will die either. My mom did a simple scrapbook of all my years in school. So some type has been around for a very LONG time.

I also don't think it will die out. I was considering opening a store when all my kids get in school, but my mom was like, oh none of that stuff will be around then. I just think that scrappin is about preserving memories and how in the world can that stop?? I know I will continue to do it beacause I love it!

In Canada, its just starting to get bigger! (ie. I was at Costco last night and they're starting to carry scrabooking kits with paper and stickers.. they had stamps.. and punches..!!)

I don't think it will ever die down. It will evolve. My grandmother did a scrapbook when she was a young girl of nothing but postcards that she thought were pretty. No photos...just stuff she liked. But what a wonderful thing for her to leave behind. One hundred years from now, our heirs will be saying the same thing about how we scrapbook now.

Agree with everyone!!! Just look at how many people are on this site!!! Plus its only going to get bigger, I see alot of people here that thier kids are now getting into it, so I only think it will get bigger and better!

I personally don't see why it ever would die down. This probably sounds cheesy, but people will not stop seeing the meaning in preserving memories. I at least hope the world never gets to that point! I'm sure it will change substantially, but I don't think it will fade away.

How funny that when something becomes popular everyone starts projecting when it will fail. What they don't understand is that Scrappin' is NOT new. It's just been brought to the forefront by so many incredible artists and their LO's.

Simply because something is starting to garner media attention does not mean that the heart of those who stick with it will ever change.

I've been doing it for 10 years, now. And as long as I'm alive and have money to spend, the sb industry will not fail! LOL

it will only begin to fail when we begin to stop....next Saturday my daughter is having her birthday party at a scrapbooking store....they each get a scrapbook and supplies to complete two or three pages....two hours of bliss....she is turning 11....the girls will all get a lesson on why it is so important to keep everything acid free...etc.....

I agree with everyone as far as it not dying down. It has been around for years. I remember my sis making one for her bf at the time. Of course it wasn't as nice as the ones we see now nor did she have all the great resources we have these days, but the concept was the same. I have been doing it for over eleven years and in my opinion, it is only getting bigger and more popular now. I do think that right now it is the "in" thing and that maybe someday (hopefully not too soon) it won't be as big of a deal as it is now, but to us who just LOVE to do it...it will always be around!! It's a HUGE part of my life and I cannot imagine having to live without it!!

Its been around for years. All of our husbands are just hoping it dies down so they get their wives back!!

I think this site is proof that there's tons of people addicted! LOL I know that I will always archive my photos & memories in some sort of scrapbook fashion. The trends will change, as w/everything, but people will continue to archive.

The hype may fade somewhat, and the styles will evolve but it wont die. I know personally, I have enough photos in my possession to scrap for the rest of my life!

I have been watching this trend grow steadily since I started scrapping almost 8 years ago. I think it will be around as long as people find preserving memories an important thing to do and that should ALWAYS be the case.

The store in Bham is awesome........I went when it first opened and it is even better now plus she expanded. She has things that I have never seen before..... that really isnt saying much since I live such a sheltered life.

Have fun in there and make sure you have some $$$MONEY$$$
