cutting protective sheets

I've seen where protective sheets has been cut so moveable layouts can funtion correctly. But when I do that it tears on open . Does anyone know what is done to keep it from tearing further after you cut the area needed?? thank you

I cut mine along the edge to make a sliding tag and haven't had a problem. Someone suggested to me to use an eyelet punch and do a small hole on each side of the slit to keep it from tearing. Good luck!

I sometimes make kind of a frame with ribbon to keep it from tearing.
