Tips for Taking Dig. Pictures of Your Layouts?

Got a new digital....just wanting tips on getting closeups (has a closeup setting) and all...without getting flash and all that....and it being clear.

i put it under the light and turn off the flash.

I find that I don't need to use the zoom for taking pics of los. I just set the lo on the ground and stand over it, then lower the camera a bit so the lo fills the frame (I use the screen rather than the viewfinder). Then I press the shutter down halfway til I see the red brackets "locking" on the shot, then hold my breath (to avoid shaking), and click the shutter the rest of the way.
I do not use the flash at all when taking pics of lo's because of glare. Instead I make sure I'm under a bright light if taking the photo at night, otherwise by a window during the day.
All my contest entries were photos of the lo's, and I think they turned out alot better than when I scan them in (the Jabber Jaws one ended up a little blurry but I didn't have time to retake the shot after I realized it).

Another thing that's helpful to know is the more zoom you do the more still you have to be. It's like it's more sensitive or something with the zoom so the shots end up blurry alot easier. This is whether you're taking pics of lo's or anything else.

im gonna have my littel cousins tripod for the video camera we are borrowing from her...maybe i can use it to get good pics of my layouts. its been RAINING ALL DAY so i couldnt go outside today...ugh.

Wow Sheila! Penny for Your Thoughts is GORGEOUS! I thought your layouts were all scanned. I used my new Kodak Easy Share 6.1 which has a text setting and they still came out kinda blurry. If anyone looks at them, let me know if I just need to turn off the flash and not zoom as much so they're sharper. I hope those tips fix it for next time! You guys are great!

Maureen - I have the same camera - I just use the auto setting - bright light - no flash. I basically do exactly what Sheila states above... and I don't have blurriness!!
