Help...new scrapper here!

Hi All,
I'm going to start my first scrapbook as soon as someone can help me with this question - am I suppose to glue the separately purchased pages to the the white page that comes with the album or work right on the pages? Also what type of glue should I use if I'm suppose to glue my purchased papers?
Question #2 - is it advisable to decorate the album cover?

Ok, on gluing the pages. Are you using a strap hinge album? If so, I make the page with a cardstock base, then when it is completely ready, I using a little double stick tape to secure the page. If you are using a top loading post bound album, I suggest taking out the white pages to use for templates or practice and just slide in the page itself....does that make sense?!!

Some people decorate the cover, some don't. I think it dependes on the type of album. Most of mine are cloth, and I like them plain. But I think that's more personal preference!

I usually take the white page that comes in the album out and use a colored cardstock for the base of my layouts. I have used the white page if the paper I used as a background was not sturdy. If I use the white page I use a tape runner adhesive to attach the page. Hope this helps.

Welcome to scrapbooking! AC Moore should be a good intro. I used to go to them when I lived in New Jersey. But we don't have them in Virginia now.
The one I used to go to in Scotch Plains was VERY helpful The class was on eyelets, brads, and fibers, but the teacher did whatever we needed help with and I'm sure I got back my $10 in the paper I used!!! They also are helpful when you're shopping!

Hi and welcome!

I always take the white paper out and use it when I need white cardstock for something. You can use a colored cardstock for the base of your layout, or patterned paper is often heavy enough to use also. There are all kinds of adhesives on the market for scrapbooks. My current favorite is the Tombow Mono, which is a tape runner sort.

I haven't decorated any covers yet, but that doesn't mean I won't in the future. If I were going to, the adhesive would depend on the materials I was using and the material of the cover.

Hi! When I started scrapbooking, I learned with Creative Memories. They taught you to just use the white pages. After about 6 months of that, I started using colored cardstock. Personally I think the colored backgrounds make the page.

Welcome to the site. Hope you enjoy your class. ACM sometimes has great sales on scrapbooking materials. As for decorating the album, that's your call. One thing about scrapping--it's your sb, so enjoy!

Hello and welcome!! I too take out the white base and use my pp or cardstock. As far as decorating the cover, the only thing I have done with the 2 albums I am working on, one for my kids and one for my neices and nephews, I just used stickers and put all of thier names on it. I think its cute and completely up to you!

I leave the white pages in. I sometimes have a bit of adhesive on the back of my layouts from fiber or ribbon. It keeps the pages from sticking. It also keeps notes from the layouts with their respective layouts.

Different people do different things.
