quickcuts or sizzix

This site is new to me, so please forgive me if my posting is not done right.

It sounds like most on this forum recommend the sizzix (vs. QuicKutz) because of the versitility - you can use all the QuicKutz shapes with the sizzix as long as you use a converter, correct? What is the difference between the sizzix sidekick and the regular size sizzix? Can you use all the QuicKutz dies on both sizzix machines? If that's the case, what's the disadvantage to the sizzix? QuicKutz die cuts are cuter (in my opinion) than sizzix, but if I can use all my QuicKutz dies in either sizzix machine, I'd be crazy not to buy the sizzix.

Any advice is appreciated.

Yes you can use the QuicKutz in both the regular machine and sidekick. There's a converter for it. With the sidekick you us 1 of them and with the regular machine you use 10 of them or a multitude of different combinations.

If you think you'll use the regular size dies then I'd suggest going with the Sizzix machine at first. If you can only see yourself using the Sizzlits & QuicKutz I'd say go with the sidekick. I have both and I like using the sidekick with the sizzlits. In fact my replacement Sidekick just arrived in today's mail from Ellison so I need to go test it out!

I want to get either a quickcuts or sizzix system...can anyone tell me what the differences are or which they prefer, etc?

i dont know Quikcuts but i have the sizzix and i love it ,i have alot of the alpha dies and i use it on every lo i think its great

I prefer Sizzix. I like the larger dies as well as the alphabets. Sizzix has come out with an adapter where you can use dies like the quikuts in their machines.

Oh I am overly in love with QuicKutz, the alphabet sets are just awesome for it, and they come out with a new one frequently!!! It is so portable, I can take the hand tool and ALL of my dies with me to ever crop, the dies slide into a small 3 ring binder you can purchase! And did I mention how cute the alphabets are??? hehe! I have every tag shape they make as well, which are super fun to use on layouts!!! So my vote is QuicKutz all the way!! Amy

I haven't used Sizzix much. (A friend has one) But I must say I am a QK ADDICT. I love my QuicKutz and I have never regretted the money I have spent on the Fonts. My husband maybe, but me never.

My preference is for a Sizzix Sidekick. I chose a sidekick because I don't tend to use any dies, except for letters and I wasn't particularly fond of any of the full size sizzix alphas. In addition, the fact that you can get a full UC, LC & # alphabet for $150 retail (not that I've ever paid that) was very attractive. QK UC, LC & # alphabets are over $350 in most cases retail. As cool as their fonts are, I just couldn't stretch my budget that far. I do have one QK skinny mini alphabet which I got a pretty good deal on via ebay and I have to agree, their dies are much more portable. That said, even if I had enough to go QK all the way, I do not like the hand tool. I do not like not being able to see where I'm cutting. If you get a QK mini or skinny mini alpha where there are two letters per die, you have to cut both letters each time as you can not see into the tool to precisely place your paper. I use an adapter with my QK alpha and it works really, really well. The sidekick is really portable if that is an issue. Anyway, JMTC.

I have Sizzix and LOVE it...I like the larger dies for it...easier to do paper piecings with the larger ones

It is bulky but I have no problem taking it on weekend crops in a rolling flight bag

To throw another option out there for you...I have a Zip'E Mate cutting system from AccuCut and I love it! It is sort of large, but I have taken it to crops and it is not that big of an issue to transport. I love the easy crank style handle (similar to a Xyron crank handle) and the versatility of the ZIP cannot be beat because you can use dies from many manufacturers - AccuCut, Sizzix, Sizzlits, Quic*Kutz, and even dry emboss with brass stencils!! I have used it with QK dies & alphas, Sizzlits alphas, and small Sizzix dies and it works great (just keep in mind that you have to have different sized platforms to use the various sized dies). I have a sidekick, which I love because it's so easy and quick. I have a zipemate, which I love because it's easy and can do all the Qk, sizzix, and zipemate dies, making it so versatile. I just got a Wizard on supersale--it's the most versatile, but not easy, and generally the most expensive. So--my vote, if I were going to get just one, would be the sidekick if I just wanted small alphas, or the zipemate for its ease and versatility.

What did you find difficult about the Wizard? I have a sidekick and love it, but my daughter is about to start school so I'm considering a full sized die machine to help with her school crafts, etc. I have another question as well, can the zipemate cut fabric and foam like the full sized Sizzix? TIA

I vote for sizzix. You can buy the adapter for the sizzlits, they're coming out with great new regular dies, and I've been told that if you use an extra pad or two, you can use the slim dies from QK and Accucut, although I read that Sizzix is coming out with an adapter for those as well. One machine that takes all the dies.... I like it.
