How to handle lots o/pics from vacation

OK, so I just got back from a WONDERFUL vacation in Buenos Aires!!! I have so many pictures. any one have any tricks, tips, ideas on how to handle lots of vaction pics.

I would love to see/get ideas for a vacation mini albums or someone who used a particular theme/style thoughout the entire book. (I used a really simple layout that I repeated for a birthday party and i loved it. 30+ pages completed in one night)

I've already trimmed the 500+ pictures down to 225 and organized by theme/location.

I'm currently working on our Disney Album. It's hard because I took over 2000 photos, and even after deleting the bad ones, I've got close to 1900. One thing that's helping me is to write a list of all the LOs I want to include and then figure out what pics, paper, embelllies etc I need for them.

These are two albums I did where I used the same basic style throughout to make it easy. the Louisville album took me about 12 hours to do, the Showcase album took about 20.

I think when you are doing loads of pics like that a big paper punch can go a long long way. Here are a few ideas for you... They are not vacation specific but that's easy to change.

My DH and I went to Germany last year. We came home with over 550 pics that I got down to around 490. You can see the LOs in my gallery. I'd say doing multi-pic LOs and dedicating a whole album to your trip is the best idea.

There's several options.

1. Mosaics of scenery pictures

2. Picking a 'focus' photo that tells the story and matting it and then layering on top of supporting story photos

3. Several of the same LO styles "rotated"
I just saw this in Creating Keepsakes magazine for March/April. It's also called 'page flipping' where you can have opposite effects (one page has border up and the other down, or mirror images, etc) Try looking it up.

I took some pictures of my granddaughter that had so many that told the story that I had to use them all. I did a two page LO that covered them. Here is a link to one of the pages (I hope I did the link right).

i am in the middle of creating my wedding album and my photographer took 900 photos!

I wrote down all the pages I wanted to do (theme's such as: walking down the aisle, vows, etc)..then I went through and chose the best photos for each page. I may not use all the photos that I have..but I chose the best ones. The rest I will use to give to people that want some pictures..or I will frame them for around the house. Helps me to write out what pages im gonig to do and get them in the order they need to be in the book..then i choose the pics.

Karen Russell, on her blog, has a layout from a couple days ago that has used a bunch on one page. Go check it out. Basically, she hid a bunch under the title. Really stink'n cute.

Maybe I should....

A) use the 40 I narrowed it down to for my blog (paperchaise.wordpress.com)
B) Try Page flipping
c) I Already have them organized by place/event
D) Use hidden pics
F) create a flip book
E) all of the above

I am thinking about a 6x6 (maybe lager). on one side I will use one "main" picture and on page 2 of the book, create a flip book/hidden pics

The issue with the flip book is that some pics are horizontal and some are vertical. hmmm... Thinking

did you get them printed yet, and if no do you have access to some photo editing software?

I didn't get them printed yet. I wasn't sure if I would get them in 4x6 or 2x3.

I also thought about getting them printed in the smallest size they offered, blue-toned, and laying them out like the Argentine flag (strip of blue on top and bottom, leaving the middle white), and somehow creating the star in the middle

We took over 1500 pictures on our trip to Colorado this summer.

I'm just scraping them as I'm inspired to- I think I would get bored/burnt out to scrap them all in one fell swoop. but that's how I scrap. Everything's all mixed up right now and one day I'll put it in order.

I really like the hidden pictures that allow you to put more pictures in a layout without cluttering it up.

What I've been doing for my Disney Album, (and this is part of the reason it's taking so long!) is using Photoshop to put 4 2x3 photos on a 4x6 canvas and 2 4 by 2.66 inch photos on a 4x6 so I can fit more on a page. This is how I printed the last fireworks page I did for a different album and ended up with about 30 photos on a page. I also plan on using some of the smaller shots to make a decorative border for some of my pages.

What I like to do is pick favorites...scrapbook them with the story and basics. Then place the rest in photo sleeves like these below. The actual layout becomes kind of a title page, but I still get to use all the photos.

On the cruises we've went on, I always seem to come back with at least a thousand pictures. I've always just narrowed it down to "sites" (specifically islands and events) and the picked my favorite photos from the event. I normally use 12X12's so I cut my 4X6's in different shapes for the LO's... my vacation albums are in my gallery! Hope it helps!

Ok, so I'm thinking of doing flip books. Any suggestions on how to make that work when some are verical and some are horizontal

If you have that many do a whole album.

My solution is to scrap my favorites, and the rest I put in a pocket with a tie that says "more photos" that way I can take them out and look at them.

Great ideas in this thread! I usually take & scrap lots of pics per vacation but I have nothing new to add here, everyone's already given the suggestions I would've posted!

I took lots of pictures when I went to Europe, and what I did was label each picture as soon as they got developed so I wouldn't forget anything. Then I chose which ones I would scrap, and put the rest in a regular photo album.

12 x 12 Swinging Shutter page protectors would help!

I'd go through and print the ones you love.

you can do a few pages with mostly pictures, just label them. For my cruise book, I just have journaling on the first page for each day.

crop pictures and fit as many as you can on a page. search the gallery for ideas.
