Preserving lost tooth?

My daughter just lost her first tooth and I want to do a page about it. I was thinking of including the actual tooth in the LO, either in a small clear plastic bag or a vellum envelope or something. But my DH is concerned about the tooth drying out and cracking or disintegrating if it's not properly preserved.

Does anyone know anything about this?
Do I need to preserve the tooth somehow, and if so, how?
Can I just put it in the LO?
What would you recommend I put the tooth in so it is visible, but protected on the page?

My daughter is almost 18 and I have lots of her teeth. Some have cracked and some have not so not sure what to do. I wonder if there is something you can seal them with?

Before Scrapbooking people kept them in tissues in one of those little plastic boxes. Maybe you could still keep it in a tissue and put it in an envelope. You could always take a picture of it...lol

I'm not sure that I'd keep the tooth at all, but maybe you could use something like this:

It's a really cute idea - but if you didn't want to purchase something like this, you could use small trinket box.

OR: Use a beer bottle cap, glue it to the page (label side down) and fill it with some modeling clay, then you could stick the tooth in the clay.
It would only stick off the page about a 1/4 of an inch or so...

This is another example I've found, I don't think it uses the actual tooth though!

I would seal it with something like Modge Podge or a clear varnish...

I saved my DD (now 12 year old) teeth and some did crack in half, But,others are fine. I used a tiny bag to put them in a LO, but I did'nt know they would crack and also I was not aware of anything to preserve them. Hope that some one here can give a clue as to what can be used.

I would call the dentist office and see if they know of anyway to preserve lost baby teeth. They may know a way. HTH!

What if you sealed it within a bit of (something) like bugs in amber? I don't know what you could use--hot glue? Is that acid free and all that jazz?

Perhaps you could put it in a small shallow container and put Glossy Accents over it....

I think I still may have some of the teeth that I lost as a child. Enamel is pretty resilient as long as there isn't much acid involved (which there shouldn't be in scrapbooking ) I think using glossy accents or diamond glaze to paint it would be even better to preserve it.

my mom just sent over all my baby teeth last month. I'm 34, and they are all ok. She kept them seal in one of those small jewelry ziploc bags

How can you have the tooth on a scrapbook page when the Tooth Fairy takes it?!

So I called the dentist. He said you can paint it with super glue to seal it or you can buy some sort of bubble thing that takes the air out. Not really excited about either of these options. What is Glossy Accents?

The tooth fairy give me the teeth after she gives the kids their prize. The kids know that their parents know the tooth fairy and Santa Claus.

You could grind it up, like ashes, and scrap it like sand. Sorry, I'm being a smart-alec.

i didnt do a tooth lo but i did do a pumpkin book and used pumpkin seeds that we got at the pumpkin fair and theyve been in this book for about 6 years now and they havent done anything to the paper or anything and i didnt put anything on them... but what i did was put them in a slide with clear plastic and used rubons on the slide to tell about the seeds... i included a pic below of what i did and i think a lo like that using a first tooth would be awesome but id probably like modd podge it before i did it though.. just a thought hope it helps..

Glossy Accents is sort of like diamond glaze and similar products -- it would take awhile to dry, but I have embedded a coin in an antique watch crystal with it -- dries hard and clear -- made by Ranger -- maybe a bottle cap with GA or try a watch crystal and adhere it with more GA -- it is fab for adhering heavy items!!

So would I still need to use Glossy Accents if I put the tooth in a little plastic ziploc jewelers bag?
