Anyone can help me to describe the Value of Scrapbooking to future Generation???

Heritage for starters, preserving those memories, being able to touch, see, experience in a way that moment that is captured on the layout.

It all comes down to the memory, and yes of course the care put into making that book or layout. If done proper, that book or layout should last a really long time, hence something to pass down to generations.

The journaling, my gosh how great for some of these children whose mothers do these fantastic books and layouts that journal all the little things about the child growing up - fantastic to have your own life history, right there!

And of course, it is just plain fun to create!

Scrapbooking is also a way to show future generations "the way it was". It's a way to save photos for all to enjoy, an experience of creativity, and also to show our love by the caring way we put layouts together.
Way before all the scrapbooking became popular, I did a genealogy book on my father's side. Even tho he had passed as had many of the "original" brothers (my grandfather's generation) I had cousins who related stories & events to me to put in the book. I traced the tree back to 1714 in Italy and with many relative's help I put together a huge story of LaFamilia. I did all this on the computer so the printer had an easy time. My point is that family in Italy got to read & "meet" cousins in the US that they never would have. I'm now known as the "historian". This pushed my buttons to do more scrapping and it is as rewarding as it is fun.

The oldest person in my family I ever knew was my great-grandma on my Mom's side. She was born in 1907, had lots of pictures and lots of stories. None of them ever written down. I/my mom/my grandma have them in memory....(now that I think of it, i should probally wright those down, and whatever my mom and g-ma can remember, too)but we should get those stories down in print!

Me, in present day....I hope that my kids and their great-grandchildren will know what it was like for *me* in 2009. (and previous/future years).

I want them to know how I felt about them, my friends, my parents, and my life ( i like to add current technologies, too).

Plus, the art of scrapbooking is just plain fun to me. If they can even a small glimpse into their past/family past, it makes me happy!

I remember when I was younger I found a notebook with a bunch of Mom's high school letters in it. It was so nice to get a glimpse of Mom and her friends (some of which she's still friends with) when they were younger. I think of my scrapbooks as my version of Mom's letters. I used to have a notebook with my letters in it too, but my Grammer talked me into getting rid of it. I wish I hadn't let her. Anyway, I think it's a good way for my future children to get to know me and, since I started scrapping around the time we started dating seriously, dh. When we have kids, I also want to make sure to document their "firsts", daily activities, and just plain cuteness so that they can look back on that when they're older.

I think the value of scrapbooks to future generations is that they can make history come alive, and be personal. History is studied in terms of "great" or notable people, or wars, dates to memorize, ugh no wonder so many kids hate history. I think knowing the struggles one's ancestors went through can give a person strength, either wishing to honor the ancestors or if they turned out to be unsavory types choosing not to be like them. When I look at the photos of my great grandparents, I am grateful for all of the modern technology available to me.I can think of the example of laundry, when I am feeling sorry for myself over throwing some clothes in a machine and turning it on, I can think of my grandmothers, using their their modern wringer washer, or great grandmothers, building a fire to heat the water washing them in a tub on a wash board, and hanging them on a line, gives me a little perspective about the "drudgery" of my laundry days. Technology is making everything faster, and in some cases more complex, I think future generations will wonder how we did anything because everything will be so different. Maybe future readers will find some old fashioned thing in my scrapbooks that they might want to try, and maybe it will help them to slow down just a little. Let me see if I can gather these ramblings into one thought, I think scrapbooks can give future generations, strength, insight, perspective, and gratititude.
