Scrap Table

I am in the process of finishing up my scrap room. My question is what kind of table did you purchase for scrapping? I don't know exactly what I want and would like some ideas.

I just grabbed our plastic folding table and use that. I'm pretty new to scrapbooking so I figure this will be good for now.I had to wedge it into place so its really in there tight which stabilized it and makes it totally solid with no wabble. I would like my DH to eventually build me a nice wooden one with lots of drawers.

After spending all the money for shelving,etc., I didn't want to spend a lot of money for a desk, so I took an old 8ft folding table...one of those really heavy dut ones, like the lunch tables we had at our school (I'm old...really old ) , and dh helped me to add a new laminate to the top. I still need to make the skirt for it, but it works great for me. The only thing have to pay attention to is when I want to use my hammer for setting eyelets, etc, there's a certain spot near the edge that doesn't "bounce" and lets the eyelets set correct.

I have a trestle desk from target....I LOVE it! =) Wish I had room for two for when my girlfriends come over!!1

I bought a drafting desk from Ikea and I love it! It is adjustable, so you can have the top at an angle or lay it flat.

My desk is an old computer desk the kids used to use. It has a hutch overhead and I took that flimsy 'carboard' type material off the back that's between the desktop and hutch and replaced it with pegboard (love the pegboard for easy storage that you can change around whenever you want). Then beside that desk to from an "L" I have a small table that DH and I made. We used 3/4" plywood and the folding legs off an old folding table I got from my work. The table had gotten wet from a massive water leak and the top was peeling off and breaking apart (it was made of particle type stuff) and they were throwing it away. So we removed the legs, cut the plywood to the size I wanted and just screwed the legs on the bottom. I then painted the top and stapled velcro around the edge, and then made a skirt with velcro around the top. That way I can store things underneath but not have it look so cluttered & bad and I can take the skirt off for easy access and for washing.

I have 6' tables(5 of them are set up always) so I can power layout on 4 of them, and work on the 5th one. I also have a large computer Armoire that has 3 pull out working areas, for when I have several albums going.

If you have an IKEA near you, that is the best place to go IMO. They have a lot of mix and match things and you can create whatever setup you want.

I also love to buy wood desks and tables and refinish/paint them to match each other. Cheap too.

I sort of inherited dd's dining room set so I'm using the table which is a 7 foot rectagular with 2 of the chairs, one for me and the other for dh to sit and do his thing at. I like the idea of finishing older finds to match, I'll be needing additional bookcases, storage etc so I'll keep my eye out for those too.

They are pretty heavy duty, inexpensive, and not at all wobbly. I keep one without much stuff on it to have a big work surface and so I can borrow it for upstairs when we have a party and need a buffet table.

I love the mix and match ikea tables and legs but we don't have an ikea here, so this is what I went with. Pics of my set-up in my gallery. I also have a kitchen island as part of my workspace because I like to stand to trim and use my cuttlebug.

ETA: one thing I forgot to mention is that since the surface of those tables are bumpy, you need to have a large craft mat (I have an 18 X20 Fiskars) for doing your actual work on. Rather than invest in 2 more for when friends come over,I bought 2 pieces of white foam-core poster board (for $2 each)to have as extra workmats. I put them away when they're not in use.

My family owns a bar......and we had a few tables not being used so I have 2 four foot tables that I placed in an L shape.....works for me and it was FREE best part

The table in KimKV's room is one that I'm coveting.

I'm eyeing the Vika system at Ikea, too. I love that you can adjust the legs to whatever height you like. I'm thinking one tabletop with longer legs so I can stand at it and one "regular" height with the shelving as legs. It's a lot of fun to daydream about.

I have a 6' folding, metal legs, wood/laminate top.

Some of my friends have the plastic folding tables. They are 'okay', but they do flex some.

For me, I wanted something sturdy that I could set eyelets on (with a hammer). I suppose that may not be a consideration for some people.

It really all depends on your use, space, and budget. My "perfect" table is probably not yours.

I got the crafting table at Joann's a few years ago on Black Friday for a great deal. It's tall (counter height) so I can stand or sit on a stool. I like being tall (plus, more things can be stored unerneath!). If I had more room, I'd get a few more tables so I could really spread out!!!

I have a 6 or 8 foot banquet table. For some reason we have like 4 of these in our garage....but we do use them quite a bite - rummage sales, outdoor events for like Mother's Day and Father's Day to have pot lucks, or graudation parties, etc.

I had 2 of them and used one for scrapbooking and used one for painting and more messy stuff, but I got so may JetMax cubes and ran out of room. We have a pool table in our basement and it needs to go so I have more room for more tables!

This is how i did mine and i love it! Not only is it a good sturdy surface but it has great storage under it while using the Jetmax Cubes from M's!
Got the cubes at 50% off (so $15 ea x 8 ) and the top was my old kitchen table. These tables are super cheap- 2nd hand store, garage sales, Craig's list- etc.

Good idea there, recycle a table top.

If you are getting a table second hand, make sure the legs are straight and not diagonal/slanted which can cause space issues and sliding Iris carts (or the like) under them (learned from experience).

I agree, check out CraigsList, Thrift/second hand/consignment Shops for a bargain.

There are some other creative ideas on this thread.

First thing that came to my mind when I was looking for a scrapbooking table was that it had to have enough space to put my papers AND working on LOs at the same time. I like everything within reach, so definitely has to be L-shaped. So, I looked for a desk with some kind of hutch and at least 30" wide. I came across L-shape desk from Staples with a hutch on 1 side. My MIL got me that for Christmas 2 yrs ago. Well, I underestimated how heavy papers can be! I couldn't put all my papers on that hutch without bending it, so I divided my papers on my left and right of the desk. It actually works good, left side divided by manufacturers, right side by colors. And... I still have spaces to work on LOs on both sides of the desk. This desk will do for now until I can find something similar with thicker structures. Pictures on my gallery.
