Just need to get this off my chest!!!

Ok, as some of you already know, I have recently started the process of entirely re-do my 13 yr. DD's baby album. All she had before was a normal ole magnetic album. Anyway...13 yrs. ago I was a young newlywed with a very kucky camera. Almost all her pics are about 3 x 3 squares. I've tried enlarging then in photoshop, but as you know, you can only make them so much bigger before they look distorted and funky. I like large photos. To top this whole thing off, I'm scrapping photos os my EX idiot too ( ). Just wondering if anyone knows how I could get ideas to do LO's with dinky pictures without the photos looking lost on the 12 x 12 page. KWIM???

Karen...try color blocking. I find that there's enough going on with the background that smaller pics dont seem lost on a 12x12.

Also on this week's scrapvivor challenge we had to copy magazine layouts...I found a few really good for smaller pics. They're in my gallery if you'd like to check them out

Also, have you considered an 8x8 album? I am doing one for my bom cause my pics are so small!

yeah I was gonna suggest doing a smaller album. That would make the pics seem bigger in relation to the page. Good luck!

I too have 3x3 pics from when my son was first born, almost 18 years ago. I haven't scrapped them yet either cuz they just don't look right on a 12x12 paper. Can't wait to read suggestions too.

Have you tried a machine at Walmart or Sams (probably other places too) called an Aladdin? It does a fabulous job and it's cheap. I would try it and make them 4x6. You can print them for around .17 cents a copy.

I have a bunch of yucky photos, so I print them out small. I just use big embellishments in the middle on a double matted square, them put the small photos around the embellishment.

You can always put vellum over your Ex so he's still in the pictures, but not in your view.

As for the pictures, can you scan them and then go to a Ritz Camera shop to see if they can enlarge them wtihout causing them to pixilate too badly?

I wouldn't hide your EX... he is the daddy right and this is your daughters album

I think the color bloacking idea is great!!
I have tons of those pics too from when I was a kid... I tried to enlarge some, they looked great on my computer screen but once I printed them, they looked fuzzy... there wasn't much I could do to fix them!
Maybe bring a couple that you really like to a professional!!

K, you could look at the CK site if they still have all those sketch's for Becky's new book. The sketches were for LOTS of pix, so there are LOTS of ideas on there!

I would say try a smaller album so the pics don't look so small on the page.

I was going to suggest using a smaller album too......I wouldnt take your EX out...he was once part of your life and is the father of your daughter. Everything, the good and the bad, makes us who we are today! JMO!

if you want to stick with 12x12, color blocking is a good idea. also, Becky's suggestion is great... i've seen some sketches (i don't remember if they were in the MM or CK mag) on how to use several small pics in a lo and that may help. i'll check my mags later, will scan them, and will post a link here (or will PM you perhaps).

I had the dilemma about the ex being in so many of my children's pictures. But, the scrapbooks are our heritage, being passed down for posterity. We will pass these to our children, and they will pass them on, and so on, and so on. So, I decided that he should be included for them, and their families.

When I scan small photos, my software will allow me to choose the TARGET size for the scan. I can then scan a wallet size (2x3) and make its TARGET size be 8x10. The scanner will compensate for the size difference and make sure the quality is good when printed at a 8x10 size. I do this all the time, both with work and personal photos.

I would think that most scanner software will allow this. I have two different ones (home and work) and both allow this.
