Greeting card size weirdness ... (?)

  • WM135
I've not been card-making for some time, but am organizing all my supplies to finally get back to this, and I also finally sat down just now and measured the standard, commercial large greeting cards I have on hand. I did this after hunting around for greeting card size guides.

    These commercial cards all measure 5½" x 7 7/8".

This is weird because this size doesn't appear in any of the guides I found!

See, I make the A2-sized cards from letter-sized cardstock cut in half (final size 4.25 x 5.5").
And from Michael's I bought years back a small plastic box with clasp for photographs which holds A2 cards perfectly which I use as it's low profile and easy to carry to family reunions so my lovingly-created cards don't get all beat up in transit!

But re these larger commercial greeting cards, can anyone advise what designation these larger cards go by in the industry, please?

    -----------------------
For years I've wanted to buy a slim box of similar design for photographs to carry commercial greeting cards.
In the meantime, I'll just hunt on Amazon for a shallow, plastic box with some sort of secure closure that will handle the 5½" x 7 7/8" size.

But it would make life easier to know what these cards officially go by in the industry.

    Thank you!

    Hi,
I just did a Google search and came up with a size name of A5: 5.83x8.27 inches. Says it's roughly the size of letter size sheet (A4), folded in half. Hope this helps!
