Wood on LO's

What is your thought on using it on a LO. I am thinking of those little paint it yourself flat wood plaques. Is it really bad to use real wood if it is not near the picture? Or any sealing suggestions? Thanks!!

I don't really see a prob, esp if it's not near the pic! BUT, I am noooo expert!

Wood is a source of Lignin (sp) which is highly acidic. If you put it in your book, you should keep it away from your pictures and mat it heavily.

I bought the cutest little painted wood plane at M's that I am going to use on a layout. I'll just make sure it doesn't touch any photo's. They have a whole section of pre-painted wood things for only .49 each and they are so cute!

Walmart sells little wooden tags - misc. sizes/shapes for less than $2 a pack. I love 'em. I used one 2.5" square by covering it with fabric, and it turned out fab!

It all depends on how worried you are about the acid "leaking" across the paper into your photos. Wood has a lot of lignin in it, and it is not photosafe.

I got some cute wood "tags" that look like the cross section of a small tree or branch in a scrapbooking kit . Maybe I need to find something to substitute in those LOs where I have used them. Since they came in a SB kit, I really didn't think about it.

If you paint it, it seals in the acidity. If you don't want it colored, just paint it a clear. I keep a can of clear sealer spray paint to cover wood. I use a lot of popcycle sticks in my albums. They are fun to stamp words on. When I'm done decorating, I spray them with sealer. NEVER use hairspray, it is EXTREMELY acidic and can break down a photo up to 7 inches away.

Won't do it! Would use wood on cards, though.
