Using wire

I read that some of you have used wire in your layouts. What kind of wire is it? How do I go about it? Is it safe to use, since the quimicals on the wire coud react with the pictures...???

sandra...the chemicals on the wire should be pretty inert [non reactive] i wouldn't worry about it too much. i wouldn't really let the wire touch my photos but the kind of wire that is being used won't rust or anything, and don't emit any gas or leech chemicals. the wire is the kind used for making jewelry, usually found in the beading section of craft stores. it is sold on the spool and comes in different gauges [how thick it is]..ie, 22 gauge, 24, 26, 28, etc. the thinner stuff is easier to shape but too thin breaks easily. i would think 24 or 26 g would work fine. it also comes in different colors. ck had an article about wire in february issue that gives lots of neat ideas. i think the main thing is making sure there are no ends sticking up that could hurt your photos. hth

Thank you for the info. Have you done any pages with the wire yet? And if so, how do you attach it to the paper?

YOu attach wire to the page by poking it through the cardstock and twisting it or knotting it just as you would if you were sewing on a page. I punch a hole first with my little hole punch (1/16 size) so I donh't tear the paper when I poke it through.

You can also stitch wire to your paper with a little bit of string. Sticky dots also work pretty well with the wire that's a larger gauge (I have some 18 gauge wire that I used sticky dots with)

On the safety question - I bought my wire at a scrapbook covention and they said it was safe. I don't really worry too much about the ends of the wire unless it's touching a picture, in which case I just use a fine gauge and hope for the best.
