It was another awesome trip. The desert near Yakima was blooming and the further the trail took us, the greater the variety of flowers grew.
It was very nice to hike in Eastern Washington and enjoy unobstructed views and completely different surroundings that we are used to on our side of the mountains.
This area is supposed to offer great wildlife seeing but were not lucky to came across the herds of elk that are said to be roaming around, nor did we see any other typical desert animal such as snakes. The only wildlife we encountered was a large family of little flies near one of the horse feeder stations (it is a popular horse trail) and several beautiful butterflies.
The weather cooperated really nicely giving us plenty of sunshine as well as some cooling breeze which made the hike really pleasurable.
The trail was nearly deserted itself. I was really surprised we did not meet more people (only saw two groups of trail runners) but perhaps it was because it was a Memorial Day weekend and lots of people were out of town.
NOTE: Do not always trust a guide book to direct you to a trailhead. We found several errors in the description of the actual trail and especially distances but the major error was in the paragraph that described how to get to the trailhead. This part was asking us to turn on a Harrison Rd. which proved to be non existent. First we thought we just had hard time finding it but then we asked around and even the locals had no clue. Fortunately a small map was available at one of the hotels that showed us how to get to the next connecting road and from there it was easy.
