This letter was written in 1911 to my mother from her music teacher who was homesteading in Montana. For 4 or 5 years she has to live in a 12 by 12 foot "shack" (her words) and improve the land to get it free. She had the land next to her brother's who was also homesteading. At the end of a long cold 5 years she sold her land to her brother so he had enough to farm and he bought her a house in Baker MT where she taught school and piano the rest of her life. I treasure these old letters.
