umm.....maybe next time say he may select a few to play with? or maybe even just a few dozen....but i'm guessing he had fun, so it'll be worth the clean up!
The mess may be more than you bargained for but I still believe it was the right 'grandma thing' to do for him. Next time he has a bad day, just looking at this pic should be enough to bring back his smile and better his day. God Bless You for being there when he needed you!
Oh My!! Well...it's a colorful stairway, anyway :D Did he do better after playtime? All these little toys remind me of my youngest son -- when he was 3 or 4 years old, he had a collection similar to this and his favorite thing to do with me was to play "special-special game" - which basically consisted of him lining each toy up in specific categories (vehicles - "beekles," people, animals, etc) - then, we would take turns selecting each toy (he would pick a vehicle, I would pick a vehicle, etc) until all the pieces were chosen. This would take up to an hour to do -- the acutal "play" time usually just lasted a few minutes!!
Sorry to ramble on, so -- this is a wonderful photo and gives me tender memories, so it's going into my Favorites -- thanks, Hon, for sharing :)

Give 'em an inch and they cover the entire floor. It is precious that you were there for him. Next time work on it togehter. (btw thanks for the grandma tips! I need to make a note to self!)
I agree with Mosey and Mommy, I try hard to train my girls to pick up after themselves, but normally it looks like this. I just tell them they can't complain if something gets broke when they leave it out. I definitely don't pick it up for them. Very sweet of you to do that for him after he had a difficult day.
It does look like a super hero staircase. My grandkids are still young enought that that they think picking up is a game as long at you do it with them. I actually think Logan dumped the quatro legos out on purpose many times while he was here just so that we would get down on the floor and "play" pick up with him. Glad your grandson got to spend such a lovely day with you.
that picture is definitely priceless! Im sure a big box at the bottom of the steps and a couple sweeps of the broom will make it all worth while for the happiness you gave him in being a child :)
My grandson had a hard day yesterday so I had him over for the day and decided to give him a gift. I told him he could play with any of the toys he wished and he didn't have to pick them up this time. WHAT WAS I THINKING?? This is only a small part of the mess. I know what I will be doing tomorrow.
