Baton Rouge got its name from the French-Canadian explorers in 1699. They spotted a bloody cypress pole on a rive bluff marking the hunting territories between the indigenous tribes. The territory was called Baton Rouge which mean red stick in French! DH and I decided to explore the city today. After we parked in front of the Old Capitol, we saw howclose we were tot he Mississippi River. There is a lovely trail next to the Mississippi River where you can watch the ships go up and down. TFL! I appreciate it.
