DD making cookies by herself for the first time.
Journaling reads:
You always hear about the rites of passage in childhood, and as parents we prepare ourselves for them; first day of school, first date, first time driving, first heartbreak. But the little ones often take us by surprise.
Amelia loves to cook, like most kids her age. One night she kept bugging me to make cookies, so I told her to get the ingredients ready. She comes to ask about measuring the sugar and brown sugar and I realize she has everything all ready. She had all the ingredients lined up in different bowls, just like a cooking show. I gave her advise about using the mixer and she checked her recipe about a dozen times to make sure she was doing everything correctly. As she was making the cookies, I realized she had entered another stage of childhood. It surprised me at how this just crept up on me. Amelia has not achieved a new state of independence. I guess I was preparing for it, I just didn't think it would be served up with a glass of milk!
