    Great Cutter

I am so impressed with this cutter! I deliberately waited a couple of months to review it, as I wanted to test it out fully. The verdict? It's amazing! Clean, sharp cuts, even down to 1/16th of an inch! Cuts all materials like a hot knife through butter. I love that it folds so that it takes up less room on my work table. (This really is a BIG tool, so small studios, beware.)

You would not want to purchase this if you have a craft area where everything has to be packed away at the end of the day, as it is heavy and large. Also not good for travel. But wow, does this workhorse cut paper.

I love how easy it is to keep my paper straight, so no more crooked cuts.

The one little negative is that the 6" mark falls right in the gap where the tool folds in half. This threw me at first, but after a while I realized there is a sort of a line that you can follow and hit 6" every time.

This is an investment, for sure, but what a great tool. I am on several design teams in the industry, so I cut paper every day and LOTS of it. I'm very pleased!

    The Best!

Way back when I could have gotten this cutter, I opted for another (that was a little more actually) and I think of all the paper that was wasted trying to get a good cut! This little jewel is worth every penny. It cuts like butter, and has an extension on the outer side of the cutter so that you have help in keeping your paper straight. You almost have to try to mess up. I can't say enough good things about it. My only wish, is that the folded area (for storage) makes it a little difficult to hit between the 5 and 6 inch mark, but such a minor thing compared to how wonderful it cuts.

    Kudos to Fiskars!

This is a dream cutting machine. Thus far, it has given me smooth cuts for all all card & paper weights that I've tried. That includes No more rough-sawn edges to hand cut or sand away.
I've used the trimmer on medium weight chipboard, with the same results: professional, smooth, cut edges. I will say that it takes a bit more pressure to run the blade up or down against the heavier material, but if I can manage it, I think most others will also.
The double rod construct keeps everything level & steady, and even though I have severe hand and arm issues, I can easily operate the blade--either going up or coming down. Reviewers had warned that it might take extra push or pull to get the job done, but I'm having no problem.
A couple more of my favorite things about this Rotary Bypass Trimmer are:
    1. the self-sharpening blade--don't ever have to change it.
    2. the smaller footprint--folds in half and uses less storage space when idle.
I would absolutely recommend this wonderful product.

    Does not cut multiple pieces

Just received and used it. Have tried cutting multiple (4) layers of 120 lb cardstock, with unhappy results. Seems to have a difficult time cutting...jagged edges, bottom pieces of cardstock shifts and, therefore, end up crooked.
My best result was with one piece of cardstock. Although, blade seems to struggle through the cut.
Have not attempted any other media.
Would be nice to have an instruction sheet, as well.

    Unsatisfied customer.

  • Best Trimmer Bar None

For over 10 years I had been on the hunt for a trimmer that can handle thick paper, that can cut perfectly straight, that does not have guidelines that wear off and that does not need to have its blade changed all the time. This trimmer has it all! The double bar keeps the cut perfectly straight. The blade runs underneath a protective housing so no worries about hurting your fingers. The blade is self sharpening and never needs to be changed. I have mine for a couple of years now and it still cuts perfectly straight through everything from vellum to thin chipboard! The guidelines are underneath protective clear plastic and do not wear off! I like that it folds in half for taking to crops and that it feels sturdy and solid. This trimmer is worth every penny.

  • Trimmer trouble?

I did not purchase this trimmer from this shop, I had bought it from Michaels over a year ago, but I have always wanted to do a review on it... the blade is very sharp (which is more than I can say about the smaller fiskars cutter I had before this one) however, there are some issues: mine cuts crooked, so I have to purposefully place my paper in crooked to try and guess where it should be cutting (which is not easy to do) but, this could just be an issue with the one I bought. And, where the platform folds in half, the little clear line that has no numbers/markings, is exactly where the 5.5-6 inch range is... which is a very common measurement for card making, so I always end up having to use a ruler when I cut because the 5.5- 6 inch numbers are not there... pretty annoying. And, after about a year of use, the blade freezes/stops mid cut in several spots along the track... now, despite this "jamming" it does still cut well... there are no jagged edges like you would expect to see. So that's good. (Again, this could just be an issue with the one I bought.) And finally, the folding plastic paper gaurd... it's supposed to stay up when you lift it up, but mine falls down very easily, and if your a large chested lady? Forget about it. Your girls are gonna knock that thing over constantly lol... not meaning to be crude, but it's just a fact. To be honest, I have thought about getting another one, because I do really like the sharp easy glide blade... I am hoping that the crooked design is just a flaw with the cutter I bought.

Are you able to cut through chipboard without damaging the blade?   By: User (05-Aug-15) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • It does cut through chipboard. I don't think there would be anything that could damage that blade. If you have the strength to pull/push it, the blade will cut it!! Best money I have spent. It is a workhorse and I can't imagine working without it. It cuts through magnetic sheets with ease, layers of cardstock, just about anything. Well worth the money!! • I have had no issues with the quality of the blade. I use this cutter frequently and the blade is as sharp as when I first purchased it. It truly slides through thick cardstock without a hitch. You'll love it! By: skleszynski (07-Aug-15) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

What is the difference between this one and the same on on Amazon for $69.46 (less than 1/2 the cost)? Just search for "Fiskars 100580-1002 Procision Rotary Bypass Trimmer, 12 Inch" If this one has more features, I might be willing to spend the extra but, at this point, it doesn't seem worth it.   By: User (03-Feb-19) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • Love mine! The most accurate trimmer I own...and I have a bunch of 'em. Looking for the perfect one, I bought a lot of them...
I had the same measuring issue at first, and found if I align paper but-up against the 5.5 mark, there is exactly 1/2 inch to the 6 inch mark. Guaranteed!
So you can figure from that point with confidence.
This trimmer cuts multiple sheets and is not hard on my sever arthritic hands. As I said: I love this trimmer. By: ebedigian (08-Apr-19) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

  • I have been using my trimmer for 3-4 years, possibly longer, and it has just started to cut a little ragged. It says its self-sharpening, but what happens when it stops cutting beautifully cleanly?   By: RachelUK (13-Aug-16) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • Keep in mind, that when any kind of blade is sharpened, what is actually happening is little slivers of the blade is being removed. This is why any self sharpening blade will eventually have to be replaced. By: Judy2aT (16-Mar-20) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. The product description boasts the trimmer's ability to cut "other thick materials", but how thick are we talking? Can it cut the book board from We R Memory Keepers or, even better, the thicker book board from Paper Source?   By: User (29-Apr-18) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! I cut large amounts of cardstock for cardmaking events. How many pieces of cardstock can you cut at a time? My previous Fiskars cutter could handle 5 pieces easily.   By: User (25-Mar-18) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • Yes...5 sheets is about right of course depending on #s. Light wieght no problems. 120# I wouldn’t do more than 3-4. May have burrs on edges...Hope this helps!
