In the late nineties, when AOL was bringing dial-up internet to households across the United States, Jill Davis — a lifelong lover of genealogy and renowned teacher of crafting and memory keeping — began dreaming of a website where crafters could share their scrapbook layouts, learn new papercrafting techniques, and find quality supplies to create beautiful, meaningful handmade creations. Jill loved crafting, but more importantly, she loved crafters, and she loved teaching them.
Jill and her husband, Charlie, began sketching ideas and making plans for the website in their small study in Mesa, Arizona. In 1999, after many setbacks and countless hours of work, the original Scrapbook.com website was launched. Unbeknownst to them, that website, which they originally branded the "Scrapbook.com Neighborhood" to convey that it was a quaint, friendly community, would inspire and change the crafting world forever.
Scrapbook.com quickly became an online home for crafters worldwide, where they share ideas and receive inspiration. Jill's son, McKane Davis, was hired as the first employee, and soon, other talented and thoughtful employees joined. From the beginning, we listened intently to what our customers said, and we made continual improvements to serve and delight them: an online gallery for crafters to share their projects, innovative tutorials and resources, knowledgeable customer service representatives happy to hear from them, and a vast curated selection of products. Jill's love for fellow crafters fueled her relentless pursuit to serve them with excellence.
In those early years, we packed orders by hand in a tiny space behind a local scrapbook store in a strip-mall. As the business grew, so did our space needs — from 1,000 square feet to 5,000, then 20,000, and eventually to a custom-designed 70,000+ square foot facility in Gilbert, Arizona. Along the way, Jill’s other children joined the business, and hundreds of additional colleagues joined the company, bringing their skills, expertise, and care. While the website has evolved and the company has grown, our love of papercrafting and people has been the foundation of everything we've done.
Scrapbook.com is an innovative eCommerce company, but we believe what makes us different is that we operate with integrity, care, kindness, warmth, and humor. What began as one woman’s vision is now the world's leading destination for scrapbooking, card making, and paper crafting.
In recent years, we founded the Creative Kindness Foundation to spread kindness through handmade creativity, further underscoring our commitment to giving back and helping creative crafters make the world better.
The story continues, one we strive to build with hard work, thoughtful decisions, unrivaled core values, and a deep love for creativity and crafters. Thank you for being part of this journey!
It's Creative Kindness Week!
