how to print on vellum?

I would like to print an itinerary on vellum. The first time I did it in blue and it came out purple. On regular paper the blue was blue so I wonder if I need to change something on my printer since the paper is so thin?
Suggestions?

On my computer it's not so much a setting its just a matter or how the paper soaks up the ink. Play with custom colors and choose a blue that has less purple. In microsoft word when picking font colors you have "more colors" where you get the weird little hexegon of colored circles to choose from and then a tab that says "custom" it's easier to fine tune colors on custom even if you don't know the actual color values. You can move the little cursor around until it prints out the color you want. then i think you can save that color.
some one else may have a more specific "heres your probably heres how to fix it" answer but that's what i would do! good luck!!

Were you printing on coloured vellum?
Perhaps the background colour is showing through the ink.

I've printed on vellum and never had one issue.
But I buy the printer freindly acid free packs.

I figured it out. On my printer settings then on properties then on paper type and changed the paper type to transparencies. Then I changed to quality to everyday from best and it came out perfect!

"The paper is thin?" The vellum I have is pretty thick.

how do you decide before you print which side to print on? I made one page that looked great with nicely printed dark letters, then the other page, (that I got on the wrong side), printed not so solid with tiny breaks in the letters. Other than waste part of the sheet by preprinting on the edge, for me it is just luck.

Not all vellum is made for sending through a printer, and sometimes you do have to change your printer settings as mentioned above. If your ink bleeds or doesn't lay down completely you'll need some Pounce (graphic arts product to prepare a surface to take ink cleanly) or the ScraPerfect product which is probably the same thing (just a different price point). I've never found vellum to have a 'front' side to it.

Yes, the Perfect Crafting Pouch (formerly the Perfect Printing Pouch) is designed specifically to eliminate your vellum issues. It dries ink instantly so there's no smearing, and makes the ink dark and crisp. Don't use transparency settings if you want rich, dark printing as transparency just puts out less ink in an attempt to dry the ink faster. It also lets yo print on either side. (There is a front and back side to printed, patterned vellum. The richer side has the pre-printed inking on it which is what is resisting the ink even more than normal vellum.) Not all printers have the same degree of issues. I use HP which is worse on vellum than Epson--but a very dependable machine. With the pouch, it doesn't matter what vellum nor what printer you have.

Instant drying? Yup. You can even apply pigment ink cats eyes directly to paper and then apply the pouch and the pigment ink is instantly dry. This was part of the CHA demo this year.

PS the name of the product was changed to reflect the fact that the pouch does so much more than improve printing--which of course it does.
