not cutting straight with guillotine cutter!!!

Topic Closed

I've had my Tonic Studio guillotine cutter for a month now and for whatever reason I cannot get it to cut straight. Has anybody else experienced the same problem with this cutter?

I know you may not always get a straight cut with any cutter but it's really not straight every time I've used. It's making me crazy!!!

I have a different brand of guillotine cutter, and have learned that I have to put my hand over the paper guard while cutting. Without that added pressure directly on the paper, the paper will move as it's being cut, resulting in a crooked cut.

I keep my hand on the paper also and I keep a little pressure going up to the top so the paper stays straight.

I have a Creative Memories guillotine style cutter that I really love. It has a piece of plastic that the paper slides under with a place to put your fingers. I just lightly press that to keep the paper from sliding around. Maybe something is wrong with your trimmer? Maybe you should try another brand (like an earlier suggestion)? I know all cutters are not created equal.

I totally believe there is some wrong with my trimmer.

I have held down the paper guard while cutting and lineup the paper with the top edge of the cutting base and it still isn't cutting straight. Oh well, I hope I can get a refund or exchange it for another trimmer.

Hope I have better luck with the next trimmer.

I am convinced that the white grid on my cutter is ever so slightly off.

Mine was doing that...the blade was bent or something, the measurement was off, making crooked cuts every single time - I wrote the company, and they sent me a brand new trimmer (yes, the BIG 12" base one!) within 2-3 weeks, no questions asked! The new one was perfect!

Those type of cutters generally don't work very well. You would be better off with a Fiskars paper trimmer. It glides down the paper and it makes perfect cuts everytime!
