I'm wondering if it's safe to use the following in my acid free lay outs....
*Paper doilies?
*raffia?
*artifical flower petals?
*non acid free stickers that will be at least 3"+ away from picture & there will be no sheet pressing behind it where it can saturate through?
*newspaper clipping?
*acid free paper with printed lay-out from my Lexmark printer? (wondering about the ink used)
*to purchase a non acid free photo album, remove the insides, put acid free covers in it? (Wondering about the album itself.)
*to add grocery receipt to one of my fully acid free pages?

I think your best bet is to use a pH testing pen. They are sold at all LSS, most craft and art supply stores. It is probably better to be safe than sorry later.

If you do not use something like Archival Mist to de-acidify papers that have acid, the paper or items themselves which contain acid will still yellow and break down. If you mount them on pages or cardstock that are buffered, as long as they're not touching the photos, the acid will not migrate to your photos. Buffered cardstock or paper prevents acid from migrating from something with acid to your photographs. So although your items containing acid will still yellow and break down, they won't harm your photographs as long as they are on buffered paper and not touching your photographs. (If the items are something you want to keep in good shape indefinitely, Archival Mist or color copying the items onto acid free paper would be best). Many archival papers are both acid free, lignin free, and buffered, and I know for a fact that the Close to My Heart papers are all three. HTH, Bonnie

If you can't find Archival Mist at your LSS, we carry it in the Scrapbook.com Store. I spray anything questionable with it, programs, awards, newspaper clippings, business cards, etc. It's at the top of my list for "must have".
