How many photos does it take to get a passport? Normally, one, but in MY case, the answer was three.

First of all, this is my FIRST time to get a passport, so what did I know about what they were supposed to look like? I've never even SEEN a passport.

I was at Office Depot one day picking up some printer ink and noticed a sign that said, "we do passport photos," so I figured, I'm here, I need to have them done, so I'll just kill both birds today. I got the photos, and they LOOKED a little light to me, but like I said, "what do I know about how they're supposed to look?" Got home, called my sister, said, "got my passport photos done," and she said, "oh great!"

I'd already filled out my application online and had it printed, so all I had to do was take it to the passport office in Edmond (30 miles away) and get it turned in. Had my original birth certificate, my application, and my photos. I head to the office. It's early afternoon, and it's the first day that temps are over 100 degrees, but after I drop off my application, I'm heading to my sister's house (she lives in Edmond) and getting in her pool. I'm good.

I get to the passport office and there's a line, not long, but I have to wait. So I sit down and wait. And then there is no line and I'm STILL waiting. Finally, an hour after I get there and 30 minutes of "there's no one in line" the clerk says, "I can help you now." I hand her my application, birth certificate, and photos. She takes one look and says, "I can't use these photos. There's no definition. You'll have to get them redone." Well, it turns out that I am NOT an idiot - I thought they were too light, so I feel better about THAT at least.

Where do I go to get good ones? Around the corner at Kinkos. Ok. Off I head to Kinkos, around the corner. It's not there. There's a UPS store there, but no Kinkos.

I walk across the street to my sister's antique shop and get a phone book. There's no Kinkos even LISTED in Edmond, so now what to do? I look up the yellow pages and the passport listings and find photos over on the other side of town. I get directions. I'm getting ready to go out the door when my sister's boss says, "You know that Kinkos IS the UPS store, right?" No - there's NO sign that says so. Back across the street. Sure enough, yes, they can get my photo done. The passport office closes at 4pm and it's 3 o'clock now. I've already blown an hour and a half trying to figure this mess out.

I get my photos. Back to the office. "I cant use these. You can't have anything on your head. You'll have to get them redone." Are you KIDDING me???? Why didn't they TELL me to take my glasses off my head? If they TAKE these photos, wouldn't they KNOW that? Why didn't YOU tell me when you looked at them the FIRST time?

Back to the UPS store for a third round. It's now 3:30. Final set of photos and I'm out the door. I get BACK to the passport office 10 minutes before they close, but fortunately, they know me here, and they know that my paperwork is all in order. She stamps my application, I sign my name, she gives me a receipt, and I'm done. Waiting period 3 to 6 weeks.

I hope Italy is worth all this trouble.
