thoughts on my oldest son
journaling: Daniel, my oldest child. now in his 20th year, we've come to that part in our relationship where he wants to bounce ideas, concerns, and wishes off of his "square" mom. it's not that he values my opinion all that much, rather, i think he's trying to establish a different type of connection with me. he was going through the process of enrolling in college, and felt bogged down with all that was involved. it was an "oh, woe is me" kind of day. i did all i could to talk him through his fears and worries, but, my child is a doomsday sort of person, and i could not lift his spirits. i asked him if i could take his picture and he said no- he didn't feel like smiling. being the supportive mother i am, i took them anyway. sometime in the future, i'll show him these pictures and i know he'll say- "what was i so freaked out about anyway?" that's the way of life, daniel. at times, mountains seem insurmountable, but when we get over them and look back, all we see are hills. i know you have the courage, the intelligence, and the discipline to climb all the mountains in your life. believe in yourself always.
