JOurnaling: Dan had been working outside when he came in and said, "Hey! Want to see a bat?" Ever cautious, i asked "Is it alive or dead?" He said, "Come see." I grabbed my camera and followed him. He said he had seen something drop from a bush, thought it was a leaf, but went to investigate. He put on his welding gloves to pick it up and attempted to get it to fly. It wouldn't. We were afraid that it might be infected, and the cat, (who was VERY curious) might try to play with it, so we put it in a container and called Animal Control. They came to pick it up and advised me that it would be disposed of. After some research, i discovered that it was probably a Hoary Bat, and probably migrating through our area. I've never seen a bat this close up before, and it was fascinating to see all the little details i hadn't ever paid attention to. I wish the outcome had been different for the bat, but i was relieved to see our visitor go.
