Happy day to you all! I wanted to finish this layout before I had my back surgery on March 4. I am hoping when I am off work recovering that I will be able to "rehabilitate" by scrapping. Nothing works better and its less expensive!

This is a layout I did for my friend, Krystena. She is embarking on a new career in the chiropractic field and is undertaking college classes at this time. She's had a few set backs in one of her classes when she first started back in January, so I thought this picture I took of her last fall on our girl's weekend together to Ashland, WI would go great in a layout and hopefully inspire her to keep on going with her dreams and goals.

This layout was completely inspired by Gabrielle's layout entitled "The Little Things" dated January 16, 2013. Here is the link to this beautiful LO:

After Gabrielle graciously gave me permission to lift this, I went to work. I certainly did not want to do an actual "lift" of the her lovely LO itself, just to simply use the sketch and placement of certain pieces. Like many, I am one of Gabrielle's "stalkers" on her blog. She has some incredible tutorials and I couldn't resist the easy method she shared on making textured bricks. I used the Brick Doodling Template and Gabrielle's texture method. I individually cut out several of the bricks onto cardstock and then textured them. I then glued the textured bricks onto my background paper and added adhesive foam board to create and uplift/3D appearance. Gabrielle's recipe called for using white acrylic paint, but I used a darker brown. Once the bricks dried I brushed my Java Dew Drop ink to give each piece a bit more realistic appearance. I am very pleased with the result.

I love the appeal bricks can to a LO - from the grunge look to chic to romantic with lots of flowers, just about anything. The bricks were important to me in this LO as if you have ever been to Ashland WI (its waayyy up at the tip of the state resting on the shore of Lake Superior), you would see some of the older buildings have been painted with mural images creating a story of Ashland's historical past.
