Your Mom must have had a zest for life and an ADVENTUROUS spirit. You have captured her spirit PERFECTLY with this BEAUTIFULLY detailed lo. Everything is soooo perfect - I sure she would have loved this. This is a wonderful tribute and a great way to remember and celebrate her life.
As we approach the second year of the loss of our Mom I decided to try and think about how she lived instead of how we lost her. No one lived life bigger or better than Mom. This is a picture of her in a camp while on safari in Africa. She loved it there but always had one eye on the look out for snakes. She didn't even like the word let alone a live one. Not exactly sure which year this was taken but I'm picking the late 70's. You will notice the cases of Tab on the back table and a bottle of Early Times on the table by her. She never traveled without her Early Times and Tab in those days! As I type this with a tear in my eye there is a smile on my face remembering.
I was inspired by Elena Pena's Jungle Book layout and when we received this months wonderful Escape kit from Scraps of Darkness I knew I had to do this picture. I cut all of the leaves out and inked them. The beautiful butterflies were in the kit made by a great designer Renea (Reneabouquet's Place) and are on Etsy. The spear I purchased from Sherwood Forge, on Etsy, and I added the twine. I purchased the little spears from Mandy (Craftysprinkles) in her Etsy shop. The little spears are actually Dusty Attics Crooked Fence that I stained and then used liquid Perfect Pearls for the wood and black gesso for the spear. I then took strands of the burlap to weave through them. It's suppose to be where the natives would lean their spears. Hope you can see that! I highly recommend all of these Etsy sellers! Great Service and Products! The burlap was a gift from my Sister (Chipboard Queen). While I did the work it truely took a Village to put this layout together! I want to thank Elena for her inspiration, Renea and Mandy for their wonderful products and Melinda for such a fun and beautiful kit to work with. Thanks everyone for taking your time to look and support my efforts and sharing your talents with me!
