Santa...........wow. Where to start.
When Ethan was going on three, we decided to take him to the Apache Mall to welcome Santa for the season. Along with about 300 other kids, Ethan sang Christmas Carols, trying to wake Santa from his Lazy-Boy Chair in the middle of the food court.........I wondered if this would be the start of our tradition with our son.
Little did I know............
After that bizarre display of holiday spirit (for newer parents!) we decided that we would not fight the crowds at that time to discuss Christmas lists with Sants, but we would come back when the line was shorter, and when Ethan had a nap. So, we decided to make a quiet exit. As we walked out of the mall, my little guys eys widened and I saw a miracle about to happen.
Here came SANTA. No one else around. Just Santa, and Ethan.

Santa saw him, stopped and plopped his jolly old tush right down on the floor of the mall. Ethan stood right in front of him..........Santa used his amazing charm to mesmerize our son, but
Under my breath I asked him to DEMAND that Ethan start using the BIG BOY POTTY. He just smiled. He said to Ethan "I'd be SO proud of you if you would just do your BEST to use the Big Boy Potty." I just rolled my ey
es........not what I needed.
BUT, to my surprise, Ethan came home, dropped trow and tinkled right in the potty!! JOY TO THE WORLD!!! (And then Eric had to come up with the funds for the green petal tractor that Santa promised him if he did it!!!)

Then, 2005 came..........And So did Aidan!! Born on December 31st, he was about 11 months when we visited Santa again!! Ethan proudly proclaimed to Santa that HE COULD USE THE BIG BOY POTTY and Aidan just screamed when he was sat on the Big Guys lap!! Santa was SO PROUD, and all we had to do was say BIG BOY POTTY, and he would remember the entire situation and Ethan's name.......priceless!!

For some reason, can't remember 2006...........Aside from the fact that Santa continued to remember my boys names........ UNREAL!!

Then, 2007. Aidan was ready to use the Big Boy Potty!!! So, there we went!! Aidan heading the troops (with Ethan following, and Mom demanding that Santa do the same favor as a few years before!!)
Santa was actually SLEEPING at the SERTA store in the mall..........there was a sign out in front saying he was napping. They boys peeked in and were AMAZED!!! But, once he woke from the slumber, we headed that way!!
Once again, Santa remembered, and went above and beyond to make our boys BELIEVE........I was so impressed and my heart swelled, as this is what we always want for our kids.....for them to actually believe in the magic of Christmas.......and this amazing man, sitting in a chair at the MALL for God Sake, made my boys believe that Santa was totally real, in every way. I couldn't let it go and made Santa a little photo gift of the boys going to see him, and Eric tucked a $20 inside, too.......hey, Santa needs gifts too!
January, Aidan was potty trained in the matter of one day ( and an eposide of "John and Kate Plus Eight"!) GLORIOUS!!!

So, 2008.................Lists made. Ethan's was practically 3 dimentional as he cut out photos from the numerous toy mags that bombard the paper every night. Front and back for him. Aidan had three things on his. :) There they went..........hand in hand (priceless.........wait, that's a lie. IT was staged for the photo opp.) to find the big guy. Many conversations have gone on, wondering just HOW Santa got to Rochester. Did he bring the reindeers and if so, where did they stay??? Did Santa drive a VW Bug? did he bring a suitcase with a change of clothes, or did the elfs bring them daily??? Ethan has discoverd that there are OTHER Santa's around. They are fake, but the one at the mall is REAL.

So, here they go. Three steps from the SANTA AREA.......... Santa see's them (there's not too many people around at this time), stands up and yells "BIG BOY POTTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" MY boys freeze in their tracks. I promptly say "Yeah boys. This man KNOWS YOU!!! What do you think of that??? This is the moment when all of those naughty behaviors come flooding back, Huh???" Santa is so excited to see my boys!! (I'm fighting back tears, and I KNOW Eric is too.........). As it comes to their turn, I kneel down to Aidan and say "A, what do you think of Santa?? Can you believe it!!" and he says in a totally excited voice "YEAH MOMMY!!!! It's Santa!!!" . He RUNS, and JUMPS into Santa's arms and throws his arms around him!! The most amazing thing I think I have ever seen (aside from when Ethan did it a few years prior!!) He spends lots of time with the boys, talks to Ethan about his behavior and how he needs to just take a bit to compose himself when he gets mad........and then it happened. Aidan told him that he knows how to use the big boy potty. Santa STOOD UP, put his hands to his mouth and announces to the entire mall "Hear YE, HEAR YE!!! AIDAN NOW KNOWS HOW TO USE THE BIG BOY POTTY!!!!" And claps, dances and cheers for my little love, Aidan!!! There has never been a time when a little boy has ever BELIEVED more than THAT moment. And Ethan, too. As SMART and SKEPTICAL as he is, was sucked in too. AMAZING MOMENT, it was. After Santa discussed the Christmas lists, and approved the top 3 items on their trailing lists, we thanked him, and I went to shake his hand. He pulled me in, and gave me a loving hug, and wispered in my ear......"THANK YOU, for all of the amazing memories~".
Was he kidding?? If he only knew..............
