My parents were born and raised in the Black Hills. My grandpa was chief of police in Deadwood for many years. After he retired, he ran a "pan your own gold" tourist attraction for decades. He died at age 96. I spent most summers of my childhood exploring the hills and hearing stories told by my elderly relatives who truly experienced the Days of '76. Most of them are buried now in Deadwood, Lead, Rapid City, and Sturgis. I will always have a love for the Black Hills. TFS your pages!
Deadwood is all about Wild Bill Hickok, and some say that he had a thing for Calamity Jane. Knowing how most men think, I would doubt it. Some say that it's just another wild story told by Calamity Jane. She was a bit excentric. Most pictures don't do Calamity Jane justice because she dressed like a man most of the time. I guess people could say that about me too as I can't remember the last time people saw me in a dress. They are just not practical! I've been called Calamity Jane a time or two, so I had to add her picture.
