oh, I love this! this looks like a mirror image of my space....and I cannot tell you about the piles of bags of new "stuff" that accumulates to the point I sometimes "accidentally" buy the same stuff over again, forgetting that I already bought it! Ugh! This is a REAL working room....and I'm pretty sure that most people's spaces get to look like "ours"...they just aren't as brave enough to show it! :o)
UPDATE: Just when I thought I was making progress, I cleaned up the diningroom and it looks like this again! LOL...I've been busy working though! New pics to come soon. The good news is that there are no bags! All new stuff is out of the bags!
OMGoodness! LOL! LOL! OK, I am so glad somebodies looks worse than mine! My dh is always saying when are you going to clean this mess up!!!!!!!!! What mess, I can find anything I need!
This looks good compared to my "craft room". I can't even call it a craft room. It has become a dumping ground. My dining room table is my craft room, for now. LOL!!
get lots of wall stuff, shelves, pegboard, think up, and up, take advantage of all the space above. Or you could but several tall shelves and put things in baskets, boxes, drawers on the shelves. Hope that helps some.
wow, how many projects were completed before there was no floor?? I love it. My small space needs some sCrap in it. Good luck on the remodel b/c you have been scrappin girl!
Your post was too cute, I had to come back and check out the rest of the advice you got from all the talented crafters. Hope you are getting your space to look just like you want.
Thanks for all of your wonderful advice and kind words! It is what it is...I know where things are and I am determined to make it my haven! The masses have spoken and I will be getting maybe 2 tall shelves, maybe for Christmas! :-)
Oh my...... I just finished organizing one of my students places so here my suggestions from what I can see.
Take out everything except your linen. Move your desk or new table into the center of the room facing the window for light. Move that black cart with cricut next to your desk. Use the top drawer for cricut stuff and organize the other 5 either by color or with stuff you use the most. Buy as many tall shelves as you can afford for both walls (the one behind your new desk and where your old desk was). Seems like at least 6 bookcases or floor to ceiling shelves would fit. Then put a different type item on each shelf. Like Bottom shelves for albums and tools, top selves for display, one shelf for the Pretty stuff, and one shelf empty of pages in progress. Have fun with whatever you do.
Once I move the bed out, maybe 2 tall shelves. over there? That should give me tons of room to store albums, boxes of stuff, heck, I could probably move everything in those crates over to the shelves!
shelves, shelves, shelves, go UP it always gives you more room. Then, buy the little plastic shoe boxes at walmart/big lots for $1.oo each and put all you things in these shoe boxes. THEN label the ends of each box so youll know what is in each one!
HTH
WOW, you know what if it was a clean room I would say, "She aint no real scrapper" when my creative juices get to flowing my room looks worse then this, I have to keep telling myself lift up your feet when you walk or your gonna slip on a piece of scrap paper or an embellie and fall and hurt your self, slide a little to the left hop over that stack of paper shimmie around those bags of embellishments, and theres that bag of dcwv paper I've been looking for now lets start scrapping (now how am I gonna get back to my table lol)
hi great idea clear out the room, then put up shelves and they don't have to be expensieve either, hubby made all of mine gor the lummber at home depot and i bought a little at a time my plastic bins and stourge things, . i also used a lot of jars for storage.
. you can do it honest! hugs, joan
That's just it...can't scrap in there. Thats why I am doing something about it. Been working in my formal diningroom, just going in to get what I need...LOL!
Here is my plan - take the twin bed out and put it in my son's room. Get a TALL shelf with lots of "tubs" for storage as well as lots of hangers with those grippers/holders to hang the stickers in the closet. The closet currently doubles as a linen closet. This house doesn't have one. THere is a place for all of this stuff, but you are right, I keep buying stuff! So, I have to stop and sort what I have. I can have this together quick. Just need to carve out the time.
I also have 3 neat freak friends SO I am gonna get them all over at once and let them have at my entire house. One will have the scraproom - if I am not done by then, one will have my room and the other can take a stab at my son's room. Truth is, we need a bigger house!
You are going to laugh at this suggestion but it was something that was so helpful for me, first SHELVES there is always more room if you go vertical, but if you have a lil budget go look at sears and look at the craftsman tool boxes, the drawers are the perfect depth for the little things we use in scrapbooking and then there are almost always deeper drawers at the bottom for larger iterms. If you wait until the day after thanksgiving sales you can get one while on sale. When you go don't look at the ones with the bearings on the drawers and all the other bells and whistles, our stuff is not heavy enough for that to matter. Get the base model and it will be fine! They are on wheels so even though it is a big item you can move it around all you want. I LOVE mine, check out my gallery, the pics are old and I have since changed up the items in the drawers but with everything labled it is super easy to find what I want!
wow! lol, hey it will be so fun to organize and find things you forgot you had! It's all just creative mess :) lol Its a scrapper thing! you can't help it..we all go through times of scrap mess! lol but seriously how on earth can scrap/swap in all this scrappy goodness!? lol!
I cleaned up my room last week and it looks just like yours! My DH gets nauseous everytime he looks in... his office is TOTALLY organized! He does NOT see how it's possible for me to work among chaos.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU, so good to know I am not the only one, okay I know I am not the only one but THANK you for admitting you have a messy scraproom. Mine looks like this all the time and I clean it at least once a week. I have a place for everything, but it seldom gets back to it's place especially if I am on a roll, I can NEVER find anything if I put it away. My room is this crazy too, but I have just learned to accept it. Remember, your room is not messy, it is just well used.
Hey it's not hopeless! Kinda reminds me of my room LOL! I have ordered a storage desk (like the Scrapbox) that you can close to hide everything.
When it arrives I will find a place for everything and then try to put my new stuff away as I get it (Hmmmm?) I really think it is just a queston of adequate storage! Good Luck, show us how you get on :)
LOL…it’s okay. “Everything’s fine, Remember to Breathe” That’s what I tell myself. One of the reasons why I love this site…only a true scrapper can understand. Been there!!! My mother always ask how can you clean and organize a room so nice one day and the next day it looks like a tornado has gone through it. It looks from the bags that you have purchased a lot of stuff. Mmmmmm Hey I see those bags and receipts. LOL You need additional storage. Take everything that’s out and/or on the floor & organize it on your bed. If you don’t have a place for it, it will determine how much storage you need. And the other scrappers gave great advice. Take an hour to work in the room at a time, otherwise it will seem overwhelming. Take pictures along the journey. Can’t wait to see the transformation. You are not along…I’m working on mine again too. Wishing you the best!!!
Huge suggestion.......GET HELP!!!!!!!! LOL....But seriously, since you have tons of room in there, shelves would be a huge plus. You could probably even place your desk in between your two windows for a nice view and still be able to add wall to wall shelves and storage. And I agree with Armygirl. I have to reorganize my scraproom at least once every two weeks and I always put my stuff away as soon as I buy it. But then, I find it fun to look it over again and find a special place for it. And after having said all this, it is easier for me to stay organized because I don't work anymore. Would you like me to call HGTV's organizational team for you also.
Oh, it would feel like heaven in there...such a challenge. I just got through with mine... Love the space and can't wait to see it when you get through...
WOW!!! Looks like you will be working on this for a while. I would suggest that once you do get it cleaned and organized, If you go shopping for new things, put them away as soon as you get home also give your scrap area 20 to 30 minutes a week to clean /organize. You can do 10 min on 3 different days or just go for the 30 min in one day. Good luck, Post new pics once its clean, I know you can do it.
