I know what you mean about what water distressing does to the paper - I don't try to use it much on smaller pieces anymore but I do like it on the outermost edges. Have you finished the 100 greatest books?
OK - Yippee and super big enormous congrats on winning the Monochrome challenge with this because it is stunning. While you were dissatisfied with how the paper handled, you certainly showed it who was boss and you rocked the outcome.
I love all the elements of this page. the red and gold make for a great dramatic look. and I agree about the water distressing! love how it looks, highly dislike doing it
Your edges doodling is perfect. Like the delicate gold edging of a good hardcover. Your wet distressing is amazing, but I understand how you feel. You tried it, right? And scrapping is not fun when you are stressing over paper
this is so beautiful, I love the photo of the books, and am also incredibly jealous of your collection! And your water distressing looks fabulous but I know exactly what you mean about how the paper handles etc. But you really made it look great!
This looks so great! Love the topic and I'm jealous of your book collection ;)
I like how you put the hinges on here and how you touched up the flower petals. The gold doodled border is great!! :)
I think the effect you got is cool. But I can understand not loving the process. What a great topic to scrap too. Even though I LOVE my iPad. I still haven't bothered to get any book son it yet. I still like holding a real book too.
Great interpretation of the twist, Lisa. I love this layout, and even though you don't like the way the water distressing makes your paper handle, YOU have handled it beautifully. Awesome looking layout! The whole book theme is tied together perfectly!
This LO was my second attempt at water distressing, and I've come to the conclusion that I just don't like it. I don't think I'll be doing it again -- it's not for me. [Clarification: It's not that I don't like the way it looks so no offense to others who use the technique - it's that I don't like the mess and the lack of control and especially the way the paper handles after it dries. It's too hard to work with, and I don't enjoy it.]
This is for the February Monochrome Challenge Week 3 - Red. The twist was 'Poetry,' and the photo is of some of my poetry books: Poems of Keats, Yeats, Frost, Browning, Leaves of Grass, the Divine Comedy, the Odyssey, the Aeneid, etc.
Journaling: Sept. '09 - I am 3/4 of the way through the 100 Greatest Books Ever Written. This month I read The Rights of Man by Thomas Paine and the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. I love the look, feel, and smell of these books, and they comprise one of my most precious possessions. I photographed some of my poetry titles for the 'Poem' mini in POD.
I doodled the gold border on the bg cs. The large red polka dot piece and the music pp mat are water distressed. The book hinges are grungeboard painted with Espresso paint. I actually masked a flourish on the dot pp with a TH mask and Fired Brick, but I ended up covering most of it.
