It's real and not real...the wood is flat but when you glue the sections together it becomes 3-D and has the look and feel of a real chandy (but from some angles you can see that it's flat). So, it does hang from the ceiling and isn't like a vinyl wall piece...Take a look at the unpainted version on the Products Used section above for more clarification. LOL
No, wait ... it is real, right? Just not sure if I'm reading your description right that it's a real chandy hanging from your sb room ceiling, or a wall mural chandy, lol!
Love this fun new wooden chandelier from Kaisercraft. It's flat but also 3-D which is fun. With layers of paint and the edges smoothed out with sanding it looks more realistic. I sawed off what would have been the drops off of the bottom to make room for real, plastic chandelier drops and sanded.
I began the decorating process by adding some studs in a few obvious places (in the rounded areas) to give some interest and texture. Then coated the piece with paint in this order: Gesso brown paint (chandy base only not candles) Tim Holtz gold crackle paint Tim Holtz black crackle paint Matte medium
The candles were painted white and cream and then glazed with a brown mix to antique them. Diamond Glaze is on the light bulbs to give them some shine.
Eyelets were screwed into tiny holes I'd drilled in obvious places to hand the chandelier drops. If you do this be sure to use teeny eyelets and drill holes or the wood will split.
